Don't Ask Don't Tell Repeal: Next Year.

Posted by Eli Sanders on Wed, Nov 11, 2009 at 9:52 AM

So says Barney Frank:

Though some moderate Democrats have recently expressed concern about repealing the policy during a midterm election year, Frank said resolve at the White House has never wavered. “The Administration is totally committed to this and has been from the beginning,” he said.

Maybe Barney Frank should take up banking reform since he IS one of the Demcorats whose finger prints are on the most recent banking disaster (along with many many Republicans).

You know, just holding ourside accountable too.

The party needs to be reminded that many of the party electorate are not on board with this and any dumb move on this will end up costing them said votes.

Frank's seat is never going to be up for grabs, he's there for life but that's not the case for others.

There's this theory that prison riots or peasant uprisings don't happen during the darkest hours of oppression and suffering, but actually right about the time a reformer comes along and starts to make things better. By giving a tangible reason to have hope, you motivate them to take action. Whereas if you were making their lives even more miserable they would be more likely to sit there and take it without bothering to react.

Which explains why so many sat on their hands and grumbled under Bush, but under Obama they positively flip the fuck out. It's fine to keep the pressure on but if you're going to completely lose touch with reality, well, then I guess I'll laugh at you.

Any pathetic, worthless coward who can lounge in a legislative chamber or executive mansion and dare to tell any active or veteran military servicemember that they do not deserve the respect and honor of being treated equally and honorably just because their gay isn't fit to hold office.

Playing politics with the lives of gay men and lesbians who have willingly put themselves in harms way for this nation and its people is an unforgivable betrayal.

While we rightfully criticize the President and the Democrats, let's not forget things like this, ripped from today's (or yesterday's) headlines:

http://www.nashuatelegraph.com/News/Stat…

This may be news to some of you younger readers, but during the worst part of the AIDS crisis, this was one more horrible thing to have happen to a surviving partner. I knew several people who lost their partner, only to be shut out of the funeral process, and who then lost their home and their belongings because of horrid faux in-laws who had previously wanted nothing to do with the deceased. Even now, we have only the tenuous DP regulations, but they are much better than what we had before. It's important to remember that.

The Dems may not always be our friends, but the repubs are almost always our enemies.

Barney could probably be a senator in Mass- if he wanted it. He couldn't run for prez obviously, but he casts enough of a shadow in the party that there is no way this statement doesn't come with at least a marginal acquiescence by the WH.
Oh and @5? That's what you believe, and unless you are in the service, then what you're doing is using the same "support the troops" argument we all got very sick of, wherein you impose your beliefs on what is undoubtedly not the entirety of those troops you "speak for" and call us all out for disagreeing with you, oops, i mean the troops.

So, the price of lgbt equality is the blood of Iraqi and Afghan children. What a fucking crock. What next? If we want health care reform, we have to restrict women's access to abortion? Oh, wait...
