Today in Twitter

Posted by on Tue, Nov 10, 2009 at 12:29 PM

Slog tipper Clinton says "Sometimes Twitter can be used for evil." Like, for instance, this post from Slashfilm:

This has to be a first. Uber popular Twitter account shitmydadsays has already landed 29-year-old writer Justin Halpern a book deal, but today we’ve learned CBS also wants to make a sitcom out of the musings of Halpern’s kooky father. The show will be exec produced by former Will and Grace alums, and Halpern will write and co-exec the script along with Patrick Schumacker. And yes, the title will be changed for television.

I've got a Google Map of the Brooklyn Bridge I'd like to sell CBS for as low as half of what they paid Halpern.

To be fair, it IS a lot funnier than According to Jim.

It's damn funny, but shouldn't they be signing the dad? It's not like this guy makes this stuff up himself.

shitmydadsays is hilarious. CBS sitcoms are not. I don't see how this is evil. It's not like random twitter guy Justin Halpern is going to sully the reputation or funniness of CBS sitcoms.

shitmydadsays consistently makes me shit my pants in laughter.....

he has upped the bar for twitter entertainment.

okay, I lied......the most entertaining aspect is the profanity.....what are they prepared to do with that?

This will fail because the success of shitmydadsays on twitter will not translate to a 22-minute, 22 shows per season format. But I don't blame Justin for taking the money and going with it.

This deal can only be considered absurd if you are ignorant of how they are -usually- put together. Seriously - hairdressers, hangers-on ... at least Halpern is funny in print.

You are talking about Hollywood - the same creative community that is bringing you a film treatment of the video game ASTEROIDS. Seriously.

@6 & @8 totally agreed on all counts.

#2 while there is some truth to that, I have a feeling a lot of the quotes are embellished.

@11 agreed, especially with the 140 character limit. I wouldn't be half surprised if "dad" didn't even exist. Still fun to dream though.

I am consistently amazed and surprised by the apparent stupidity expressed by high-level executives in various industries.

On the other hand,

I am impressed and a bit envious of those with the wit, cunning, and luck to exploit this for profit.

Uh... can Halpern write? All I've seen him do is transcribe. Love the twitter feed though.
