The Morning News: McGinn Wins, Duwamish Gets Dirtier, Sniper's a Goner

Posted by on Tue, Nov 10, 2009 at 9:22 AM

"Mayor Mike McGinn" Has a Nice Ring to It: The mayor-elect accepted Joe Mallahan's concession last night in a campaign office in southeast Seattle, before cake and pizza and beer materialized. Seattle Times, which endorsed Mallahan (as well as Susan Hutchison, Robert Rosencrantz, and Jessie Israel), editorializes about McGinn's victory today, explaining that "Seattle voters are in a testy mood" and "Seattleites are naturally drawn to nonconformists."

And Here's the P-I's Take: "That noise you heard Monday night in Seattle was the collective wailing of the city's big shots as they came to grips with the fact that Mike McGinn will be the next mayor."

The Cop-Shooting Investigation: County prosecutors lay out the case for murder and attempted murder against Christopher Monfort.

You Seen Anyone Burn Anything Down in Greenwood Lately? Do you want some money?

The Lieutenant Governor's Son: "The owner of a Kent auto-painting business shot the son of Lt. Gov. Brad Owen on Monday before turning the gun on himself after a workplace dispute. The man is a close friend of Owen's, somebody with whom he often hunts and fishes..." He's at Harborview in satisfactory condition.

Spilling into the Duwamish: A "65-foot pleasure craft" sank into the river last night, with about 100 gallons of diesel on board.

President Obama: On his way to Fort Hood.

So Long, Asshole: The DC sniper is set to be executed tonight.

New York Post Sued by Former Editor: She says "she was fired after complaining about sexism and racism, including a cartoon that appeared to liken U.S. President Barack Obama to a chimpanzee." She was the only female editor of color at the Post.

"I Was Not Having Sex": Carrie Prejean is still making headlines?

"Seattlelites are naturally drawn to nonconformists?" Are you kidding me? Sometimes I think the Times staff actually lives here in Spokane and just phones it in. Honestly!

Joe Mallahan's not a conformist, Seattle Times, he's an upper-middle-management, Petered-out, buzzword-spouting nincompoop.

Even I can see that from the distance at which I sit.

Who cares about Carrie Prejean?

In fact, who cares about beauty pageants at all?

In the era of women running for president, aren't these things like 50 years out dated? Does anybody still watch these stupid things?

@6, apparently the answer is yes.

Anyway, I think the issue was more with all the coverage she got after the pageant. Which was actually quite a lot.

One of the commenters at the P-I sez the authorities are lying about the sunk boat -- they claim "crews have any potential spill in the Duwamish Waterway contained" but the oil spill isn't "contained", it's roped off but all over the surface.

Boat owner should pay for cleanup down to the last milliliter.

If she was 17 when she made the tape, doesn't that make her a child pornographer?

The Seattle PI nailed it.

The Suburban Times ... is just a bunch of whiny babies who didn't get their way. Tough.

BTW R-71 is now almost 6 points ahead at 52.95 yes to 47.05 no. A margin of over 100,000 votes.

I wonder if some of these were those younger progressive voters who some say voted late?

Mayor McGinn (I love saying that) should make nice with labor but turn a jaundice eye toward the developers. And please, Mr. Mayor elect, stop the pay parking creeping up our streets. Please!
