Will Mallahan Concede Today?

Posted by on Mon, Nov 9, 2009 at 2:16 PM

Joe Mallahan, who is running for mayor, just announced that he will hold a press conference today at 5:00 p.m.—a half hour after the next batch of results is posted—at his campaign headquarters on Eastlake Avenue East. Mallahan would need 54 percent of all the remaining votes to surpass Mike McGinn. But Mallahan hasn't received 54 percent of the vote in any of the batches released so far by King County Election. Stay tuned.

with 4700 signature challenged votes outstanding, it seems like a stupid thing to do unless this batch of votes breaks heavily to McGinn...

of course the Mallahan campaign has a string of questionable and stupid decisions already under its belt.

Mallahan's cooked. But he'd be a fool not to wait until the next batch.

Pierce County keeps inching closer and closer to switching to "Yes" on Ref. 71. There's only 10,000 votes left to count, so they're not going to get there, but they might make it to 48%. Statewide, more than half of the 141,521 votes left to count are in King, which means we might just make a 100,000-vote margin for "yes". Which would be awesome, and put those sad, broken 70%-no counties out in Eastern Washington in their place.

If you notice, the 70%-no counties have an average income of around HALF of King. Yikes. Talk about nowheresville.

@2: I was under the impression that only a portion of those ballots were from Seattle?

@3: It really does boil down to income. Once you've had a chance to be waited on by the delightful twinks at Barneys, how you possibly deny them the right to marry???

Party Time!

P.S.: If you didn't vote in Seattle, you should be paying attention to the race for Mayor in Tacoma, and gnashing your teeth over that one.

P.P.S.: No Tunnel For You.

Isn't KC Elections going to count the rest of the ballots whether Mallahan concedes or not? What effect does Mallahan's concession or non-concession have in the real world?

It will be bad judgment for Mallahan if he fails to concede today. Any race there is winer and loser. Mallhan happen to be the loser in this case. He will lose public support if he tries to prolong this race which shows evry indication that McGinn has allready won. Mallahan be a man and bring this race to an end by conceding so that everyone including Charla can get on with their life.
