Prosecutor Prepares Charges in Brenton Murder

Posted by on Mon, Nov 9, 2009 at 3:18 PM

Public defenders have requested an emergency hearing in King County Superior Court to gain access to their hospitalized client, Christopher Monfort, a suspect in the Halloween murder of SPD officer Tim Brenton. The hearing begins at 4:00 p.m. at the King County Superior Court in room 1201

At the same hearing, King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg’s office will also make the case that Monfort should be detained for 72 hours while the county prepares formal changes. Monfort is currently incapacitated after being shot by police last Friday, so the detainment is a formality. Prosecutor’s office spokesman Ian Goodhew says his office will issue a summary of probable cause later today.

And on Thursday, Satterberg’s office will probably to file charges—including a detailed account of the alleged crimes—that link Monfort to murdering Brenton, drawing guns on police when officers tried to apprehend him, and lighting police cars on fire in late October.

the government-expenditure pennypincher in me wishes the head wound had been fatal. what's the legal bill for death penalty cases? 2, 3 million? plus his intensive-care hospital stay?
