@3 A even better way to look at it, R-71 is winning by over 6 points. 53-47

Well if that's the case, mine is one of those 33 according to the track-your-ballot thing. Whatever.

Forty five percent turnout makes me cringe. We must do better. But most excellent news on R71!

@6: Exactly 6 points at this hour.

And to think, they couched the "Reject R-71" argument with this notion that this was marriage all along, a camel's nose under the tent, and that Washingtonians would voice their opinion on this attack on "traditional marriage".

I guess Washington State wants gays to get married, even thousands and thousands of folks in Eastern Washington.

45% at a county level. 53% and growing for seattle. also, it's very likely that the turnout is still lower than expected due to ballots that haven't yet been received

GO TEAM!!! WOOOOOOOOO!!!
With all the bad news for progressives this week (xenophobic right wing hawks given ammunition for argument by asswipes like Monfort, Hasan, the Florida Guy, those gang rapists which included a hispanic-named kid), it is awesome to see progressives RULED Washington elections this time out.

Yay for McGinn!!! Hopefully he remembers that a lot of car people supported him and doesn't throw all of us under the bus.

According to KOMO, Conlin released a statement congratulating McGinn and saying they're ready to get to work. After their statement regarding Holmes earlier today, sounds like the Council is ready for McGinn and Holmes to take charge of their respective posts.

I feel a lot of victory in Mike McGinn's win because I struggled with this election. Despite the stranger's love for him, it took listening to several debates and reading many articles on both McGinn and Mallahan. In the end, McGinn's flipflop and his openness with the press are what won me over.

No, 19 is right, 4 more years of talking. Maybe we should start with neighborhood round table conversations about what this means for our city and all our very unique residents. Then we can for a review committee at the city level to review the neighborhood findings. Then we can pass these notes back to the neighborhoods. And then, nothing can get done. But it was a fun journey right? Look how much fun Children's Hospital is having with the Seattle Way. In four years, the tunnel still won't be started, the seawall and viaduct will still be standing (assuming an earthquake doesn't get them first) and we will be having some monorail style debate/vote/review of either the Capitol Hill street car, or a light rail line.

Well, naysayers, Now you have a chance to be proven right. Prophesy all you like, then come back in 4 years and distribute the neener neeners as appropriate. Meanwhile, maybe you'll forgive us for wallowing in victory, while the world goes against us in so many other ways.

@16:

Ugh, why do they keep doing that? Sometimes they'll nitially they'll post a number and then someone will realize they're off by a power of 10000 and they'll update it. Can't they get it right the first time?

@ All the sour grapes:

The "I hope he fails" attitude is not going to get us anywhere, and it certainly won't help us "get things done". Things didn't go your way. I'm not sorry about that, but after 2004, I think we all know how that goes and I can sympathize.

The tact you should take - and the one I would have had Mallahan won - is that of John Wayne: "I didn't vote for him, but he's my [mayor], and I hope he does a good job."

Don't fight him. Work with him. And he'll be your mayor, too.

What a sad, sad day for Washington if this passes. But to be VERY clear, whatever you call it, it STILL isn't marriage and never will be.
