Mayor-Elect McGinn Accepts Mallahan's Concession, Saying: "We Did It"

Posted by on Mon, Nov 9, 2009 at 6:01 PM

Here's the video:

(Eli Sanders adds: "And who's the 'We' in 'We did it'? Lots of people, of course, but it's hard to see how it could have been done without those McGinn-leaning late voters.")

Congrats to McGinn. He made the right decision to back down on the tunnel while repositioning himself as a hawk on cost overruns. I think he will be a very good mayor... although he will annoy some developers.

He accepted his concession? I didn't think McGinn would ever do that. He's never before fought a man and not finished him. It's not his way.

Mallahan knew going in there would be no mercy if he lost. I know he did. Brave man. And lucky, it seems, this time. This time...

My interwebs can't seem to process all the chanting and cowbell. Does McGinn ever say anything?

Would it be possible to get a picture of McGinn with his shirt off? I'd really appreciate that.

Get used to the Cow Bell. I actually prefer it over some of his comments.

I've never been so proud to call myself a Seattleite--at least since the monorail measure passed in 2002.

Anticipated response: Hey, and look how well that monorail turned out.

Response to anticipated response: Yeah, but this time we've got the mayor on our side.

Great work to all involved.

Remember: this is the first time that a mayor was elected WITHOUT the support of the downtown establishment, etc.

McGinn will owe them NOTHING. Sure, our pie in the sky sustainability dreams will not be realized immediately, but I am certain that Mike's heart is in the right place and he WILL work like hell to do the best for our city. That includes pushing for programs to make our city more for people and a tad less for cars, support for the arts and nightlife (yay for transit until after the bars close!) and support for community policing. Much much better than vague promises like "driving efficiencies".

I am psyched and I wish Mike well.

I love Erica Barnett sitting facing away from McGinn while he tosses the crowd his pearls of loving wisdom. She's just typing away, clackety clack.

Bets on when The Stranger's love affair with McGinn will last? I give it until June 2010.

Glad that Erica got that great big smile during this proud moment for Seattle.

Seattle for the win!
