Nice weather*, eh? And here's the Seattle forecast from the National Weather Service:

Today: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 49. South wind between 14 and 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Tonight: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 4am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4am. Low around 41. South southwest wind between 9 and 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Sunday: Rain likely, mainly after 10am. Cloudy, with a high near 51. South wind between 9 and 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Sunday Night: Rain likely, mainly before 10pm. Cloudy, with a low around 42. South wind between 11 and 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

BJC is new to Seattle. She is from Tucson. This is new to her.

Usually when people don't have anything better to say, they talk about the weather. It's like a bad date.

Thank you BJC. This weather is abysmal. I don't mind showers. But I realized while walking to the store the other night, gusts spraying water in my face from every direction, that I hate the wind. I'm over this storm stuff.

Ah, from Tucson. Considering it's 82F and sunny there today, this post now makes total sense. For the record, it's not windy on S. Vancouver Island today, just rainy, and it's gorgeous -- but if it were storming out, yeah, I'd probably be complaining too. Here are my favorite things to do on a day like that:

1. Go for a long walk in boots and slickers, then duck into a pub for a pint of something strong to fortify yourself for the walk home.
2. Make a fire in the woodstove.
3. Make soup.
4. Read for hours.
5. Take in an early matinee, followed by a pint at the pub before dinner.
6. Clean the house with music blasting. It cheers me up on a grey day.
7. Call someone you love on the phone and have one of those good long talks where you sort out your life.

I get so upset when people are mean to BJC. Her posts are witty, that pic of Sassafras is super cute, and just because it rains here doesn't mean we can't discuss it. Her point is the long range forecast -- worth noting given it's relentless drear.

Go pick on other people.

It just so happened that I ran into that storm while crossing over the mountains (actually I got hit with the hail, snow, rain mix in the Rockies, then rain and snow in the Cascades). Glad to be back in Seattle. Rain is fine, but the high winds are what I can do without.

Anonymous Unregistered Commenter @5: Congratulations, you've successfully baited me! I grew up in Seattle (on Capitol Hill, even, should you care to switch to the two-block radius trope).

Rain this time of year here is obviously not unusual, but the creation of giant coastal waves by the recent storms is (see link to Cliff Mass' blog above).
