The Morning News

Posted by on Fri, Nov 6, 2009 at 7:57 AM

Fort Hood Shootings: 13 dead, 3128 injured. After all the muddled reports yesterday, it appears that there was one shooter, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, 39, and he was about to be deployed to Afghanistan. He is still alive.

10.2%! Unemployment hits a 26-year high.

Seattle Mourns: The funeral for murdered police officer is today and will stretch from the U District to Key Arena.

Election Results 1: More results came in at 4:30 yesterday, and Mallahan and McGinn are still too close to call.

Election Results 2: But at least R-71 has won.

Republicans "Unveil" "Health Care Plan": Was yesterday's teabagging in the Capitol supposed to be cover? While angry right-wing dickheads were tearing up the Dem's health care bill, the Republicans issued their plan. Unremarkably, their plan sucks.

Murder: After the murder of a homeless man in a transient camp, Seattle police have arrested a suspect.

The Taliban Has More Keys Than a Locksmith: A "key Taliban" town has fallen to Pakistani forces.

America's Goodwill Ambassadors: Wal-Mart wants to open more stores in India.

Will This Fuck Over Joe Lieberman? If So, I'm for It: Ned Lamont considering run for Connecticut governor.

Some Americans Want to Do This, Too: Somali adulterer stoned to death.

Best Fox News Headline Ever: "I'm Tired of Hating President Obama."

And now, to celebrate my last day on Morning News for a while, you have two options for your Morning Looney Tunes. You could watch this Foghorn Leghorn beauty:

Or you could watch "Hillbilly Hare", the hilarious, derogatory-to-Southerners Bugs Bunny cartoon, which is after the jump:

If we keep extending unemployment benefits maybe we can get the rate up to 15%

When those who have quit looking for work and those who can only find part-time work are factored in over 17% of Americans need a jod.

Um, that's 13 dead, 30 injured now. You can't count the same guy twice.

The Bugs was derogatory not to Southerners but to the Ozarks (a little Midwesty, a little Southern), specifically the Hatfield-McCoy feud mythos of the Ozarks. Back when that cartoon was made, the regional distinction was finer-tuned than today.

So the latest RW blog meme is that this shooter was ON OBAMA'S TRANSITION TEAM because his name appears on the list of attendees of a conference held by a GWU associated think tank about presidential transitions.

WE'RE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS HERE PEOPLE!

From the Somali adultery story:

"An official from the al-Shabab group said the woman would be killed after she has had her baby."

Well at least you've got to give them some credit for being pro-life.

Regarding the stoning death:

Is it OK for me to hate this culture?

@5 the Ozarks are in Arkansas. The Hatfield-McCoy feud took place in the Appalachia region, on the Kentucky/West Virginia border. Yes, I am a history nerd.

Krugman apparently reads my posts on Slog, his "Boama Faces his Anzio" makes all the points made yesterday. 1. Incumbent Dems faring badly bc of economic bad news. 2. bodes ill for Dems next year (compare the head in the sand denial of some like Goldy) 3. Cause: too little stimuls and not enuf nationaliation of banks to get e'm lending to main street 4. more is needed now but since admin never said they wanted more earlier they're painted in a box 5. "c.w. in washington..is that "deficits preclude further stimulus" bc as I said, Obama didn't teach us deficits grow the economy, big govt. leads to big economy, so the conservatives still mislead everyone on this 6. lost the base bc of soft approach to wall st. thus prez is pinned down in his too small Anzio like beachhead. Conclusion "Obama put his agenda at rist by doing too little" and this may haunt us for years.

Funny how still, if you voice criticism of the god obama you get called a troll, mmm?

We need to just say we ARE socialists and get on with it.

Ned Lamont running for governonr WTF? Why not announce he will remove Liberman?

Oh wait the Democratic Party doesn't have the job of organized effort to oust Lieberman. No, it's okay to take the guy who did pretty darn well, who's already got national name id now and is beloved by netroots, and let him run for something else other than Senator.

We can easily beat Lieberman with a novel new unkown guy or gal who doesn't start now and waits a few years to start running.

That way we continue to moan and bitch about Lieberman but don't have to DO anything!

Why keep that beachhead we struggled for!

big fan of the morning looney tunes feature. i'm afraid that these cartoons are lost to members of my generation and those younger than me (im 24). they're pure genius and should remain in syndication for the duartion of time.
