Susan Hutchison: Planning to Run Again?

Posted by Dominic Holden on Fri, Nov 6, 2009 at 11:47 AM

Please try to restrain the schadenfreude as you read this (delusional) letter from King County Executive candidate Susan Hutchison to her supporters. In conceding her defeat, she stands by giving "the right message," running a "fair and honorable campaign," and, lastly, comparing her career to astronaut John Glenn, who went on to serve in the US Senate. Because being a local television news anchor is equally prestigious as being the first American to orbit earth. Hutchison's email is after the jump.

Dear Friends and Supporters,

As this amazing campaign draws to a close, I want to thank you for your tremendous support! Many of you gave of your time and resources by providing volunteer help and financial donations. I am so grateful to each and every one of you! Your encouragement and hope for a better future for our county were a daily inspiration to me.

We have been commended for running a fair and honorable campaign and we believe our message to reform county government was the right message. By continually articulating the important issues facing the county, we have already changed the dynamic of government. The new Executive is adopting our themes of reform, economic recovery, fiscal discipline and customer service. You can be proud that our focus on these issues for the last six months is driving a new accountability in county government!

My friend, John Glenn, astronaut and long-time US Senator, called me today to say he lost his first election—even with superior name recognition!—but decided to stay the path and eventually served 24 years in the Senate. He said we must have good people run for office in this country, and of course, we all agree.

Your support of my campaign gives me great hope that together we can make a difference for the future. Thank you for all you have done and will continue to do on behalf of the people of our region, our state and our country.

Yours for the future,

Susan Hutchison

"...the right message." Wow, the wind from that wink blew me clear into next Tuesday.

She doesn't stand for anything except the belief that the person with name recognition is obliged to run and deserves to win. The future of the Republican Party is with these empty-headed twits in the mold of Sarah Palin.

I saw the part where she recanted his advice, but missed the part where she compared their careers.

Thank God for Susan. Constantine NEVER would have thought to do all that stuff on his own.
Get your schadenfreude while it's hot...she'll be running for governor next time out, and I'm not sure I see how she loses statewide. (You know, you can see Russia from KIRO.)

@2: Suzie Sunshine a class act? Yikes! You've consumed far too much Kool-Aid, young man.

I'm sure Rob McKenna will step aside to let her run for Governor.

Told you she'd run for Congress in Dunn's old seat.

Going to be fun watching the primary battle between her and Sue Rahr for the Republic Party of No endorsements.

John Glenn is a D - and I don't think the Rs will let her get with in 50 ft of a Senate campaign. They made her back out against McGavick and she hasn't exactly shone brightly this time

Ughh! She lied and evaded and hid and danced. But what the fuck did she stand for besides pulling the wool over the voters eyes?

So she's going to run against Murray? She's going to lose. Linda Smith already tried that.

Hutchison's superior name ID is dangerous in and of itself. Forget whether she has any substantive policy positions. As an executive candidate, she didn't need to have many. Dow didn't beat her on the issues, he beat her on progressive litmus test politics.

My goodness! If she runs in a partisan race, I wonder what party she will choose? That will certainly be a great mystery. However will she make up her non-partisan little mind??

She probably won't do any better than Rossi in reaching to true independents, **but** she is a woman, and one heck of a lot better looking than Dino.....
