Re: How I'm Passing the Time Waiting for the Drop

This will kill at least a few more minutes: click over to King County's handy vote-tracker to check whether you actually voted. Well? Did you?

Well, that was enlightening. I found out they mailed me my ballot.

Apparently nothing else has happen though. I dropped it off myself at one of the neighborhood pickup locations on Tuesday afternoon. I'd really have thought it would have been counted yesterday. Or at least received into the system.

I'll keep checking. only 90 more minutes to kill.

I've been credited with voting, but they haven't actually looked at my ballot yet...

Mailed my ballot in on Tuesday. They have it, but I have not been credited with voting.

My votes are my secret to take with me to the grave, but I more or less voted with the Stranger. McTanqueray has another vote coming.

The main thing is to make sure they got your ballot and the signature was verified - if not, fix the signature problem.

As to counting ... some people theorize (since they didn't write the code) that it only shows they counted your ballot after all ballots are counted.

Apparently the Verizon-provided vote counting software works like that, especially if you voted for McGinn.

They received my ballot, but haven't opened it yet. I mailed it about 10 days before the election, so... WTF?

@1 Oh good, I'm not the only one with a ballot that's not showing up. Dropped off my ballot of Tuesday, but nothing's been received yet.

Should I worry?

Am I wrong for looking up all the Republican members of my family and giggling with glee when I see they never sent their ballot back?

I also am showing up as having had a ballot mailed to me. I dropped mine off at the 4th Ave drop box on Tuesday afternoon.

megan: nah... they have more important work to do than logging in and checking a box for each voter's name they got a ballot from... ;)

(yes-- I know that's not how it works)

For the second day in a row, the StrangerMart ad in the left column has stopped my computer dead. Can't scroll past it, can't close Slog. In fact, I can do nothing but restart my computer cold.

What's up?

@ #3

yep. i have a signature problem. Apparently, when you're trans and change your name. . . it may cause a problem. who knew?

However, they also called me today asking about it. They're sending a bunch of stuff to me that i have to get back to them in a few weeks. oy!

@7: i think they probably dumped all the ballots dropped at neighborhood centers into the giant pool of ballots that arrived in the mail yesterday. Since those centers were open till 8:00pm on Tuesday.

They may not update any ballot received information until 4:30 or later too.

@11 maybe you need to buy something from strangermart

too bad about the misspellings on that website. Spell check doesn't work for them?

@12 - thanks for voting and making sure your vote got counted!

@13 - ah hah, that explains why none of the ones I know were dropped off at neighborhood centers were counted yet.

Yes! On election night, my ballot showed as not yet returned (I put it in a drop box on the 29th). Yesterday it showed as recieved but not verified. They checked my signature today, and we're in.

@11, in a pinch, especially with a low-speed connection, try

NO ONE will ever show that they have completed voting on that page. It's technically impossible, and not because of how somebody wrote "the code", as Will ridiculously puts it. It's because of how votes are processed.

Once the outer envelope with your name on it has been stripped off, which is what "prepared for counting" means, there's no way to tell whose ballot is whose. This isn't code, it's BY DESIGN.

All of you people freaking out because your votes haven't been counted: you're misunderstanding the ballot process. Admittedly, the wording on the web page is stupid.
