Posted by Paul Constant on Thu, Nov 5, 2009 at 6:30 PM

(You can read the earlier post about the shootings at Ford Hood here.)

An Army representative at Ford Hood has announced that the shootings have left 12 dead and 31 wounded. The shooting took place in the Soldier Readiness Facility, where soldiers prepare to be shipped out. The shooter, a soldier, was killed in a shootout with police. Texas police apprehended two other soldiers who may have been involved with the shooting.

UPDATE: "The gunman, who was still alive after being shot four times, was identified by law enforcement authorities as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, 39..."

I wonder if this has anything to do with Bachmann's teabagger march on DC to "scare" congress into voting against healthcare reform, which also happened today.

So sad. So I what are the wingnuts who claim that if we are all armed to the teeth we can defend ourselves from mass shootings going to do with this one? Clearly the victims here were well-armed, and well-trained, and still, tragically, dead or wounded.

It's always shocking when people who're trained to kill people kill people.

Actually, probably not well-armed. Almost everyone you meet walking around a domestic military base is not carrying a weapon.
The sentries at the gate, yeah. But not the folks hanging at the base Pizza Hut.

I'm really curious what the deal is with the two people they apprehended who "may have been involved."

I'm guessing they're probably brown.

@12 - very true. And even the ones with weapons are frequently drilling and may not have the breech blocks in the weapons - unless they're at the range or on security. Other than the MPs and people on guard.

@13 - my guess is they shared a table at the mess. It usually means they have no leads.

Ford Hood? Someone shot your car? What about the army base?

Why aren't most of the people on base armed? Someone said in the earlier thread that everybody's personal weapons are locked up. Has the Military concluded that Guns are too dangerous to be left in the hands of the Military?
