What the 43rd District Democrats Gathered at Purr Think Is Going to Happen

Posted by on Tue, Nov 3, 2009 at 7:29 PM

Chris Maryatt, Michael Maddux, and Sharon Paige—all with the 43rd District Democrats, which endorsed McGinn, even though each of them are personally rooting for Mallahan (no one's perfect)—are sitting at Purr right now. By themselves. Watching Wheel of Fortune. (They're Mallahan supporters—what do you expect?) They're throwing their party at Purr because approving Ref-71 is "the one thing we can all agree on," one of them said. Do they think Ref-71 will get approved? "Too close to call," Maryatt said. "I think it's gonna pass but I don't think we're gonna know tonight," Paige said.

What are they most worried about tonight? "I'd be most worried about Tom Carr winning reelection. We don't want him. We endorsed Pete Holmes," Maddux said. "As we all know, Tom Carr is harassing gay nightlife now. And then of course the other thing everyone's worried about is 1033."

"Yeah, I'm worried about that. I work for the county, so I'd be laid off," Maryatt said. Maryatt works for the King County prosecutor's office.

Who's going to win the mayor's race? "Oh, it's gotta be Mallahan, dude," Maryatt said.

"Shhhh! We're McGinn supporters here," Maddux said, clearly trying to appeal The Stranger editor in his midst. He later admitted that he phone banked for Mallahan yesterday. Then he added, "I think realistically, looking at the polling that's coming out in the last few days, it's going to be close."

Show them the video you posted today of Mallahan playing the murdered cop card to scare up a couple votes. That was some classic George W. Bush fear mongering right there, am I right? And the bit about being a uniter too! Pure gold.

Gotta unite and come together in scary, scary times. Especially now. Right, girls?

I-1033 lets citizens manage taxes instead of legislators.

Why is that scary?

@2, clearly you haven't been through the libtard indoctrination course. These guys really believe politicians will do a better job of managing the money.

For days some of us on twitter have been telling about a McGinn win.. All you had to do was compare the web traffic to Mike (double) vs Joe's. to see what was happening at the grass roots.. Last weekend people packed the Northgate library on a sunny Fall Saturday for McGinn and people in Mallahan's own neighborhood started to call him out for failing to support any local community organizations (Wallingford Chamber, Senior Center, Boys and Girls Club, Community Center planning, Sustainable Wallingford, etc). The day before the election he suddenly had photo ops at the Senior Center (which had just closed two days earlier) and the Boys and Girls Club in a vain attempt to get votes. What we just witnessed was the birth of one of this countries first 2.0 Mayors - someone who knows that great communities are a product of the people who live in them and not the policies that an elite group of consultants come up with. We all should be proud.

LOL.

The exec board (which is who was there) is not in tune with the district membership.

McGinn won. It's time to face reality and realize the green machine can't be stopped, for it never stops.

Will, you're also part of the E-Board.

Considering that actual active members (ie: those who showed up to the BBQ, not those who worked to buy the endorsement for McGinn) preferred Mallahan in the straw poll, I would say that those of us on the E-Board who support Mallahan are more in tune with active members.

That aside, McGinn hasn't won anything yet, and I stand by my statement that this will be close.

I am glad that state governments will not be constricted by yet another Eyman Initiative, and ecstatic that Mr. Holmes not only won, but took such a large percentage of the vote. The war on nightlife will cease, and with our upcoming City Council, I look forward to the City and Bars and Clubs working together to come up with solutions.
