We're pleased to say that things are picking up at the Approve R71 Party at Pravda on 10th Ave, and they haven't even seen the shiny blue check mark next to the tally on the state's election results site:

The unfortunate thing about the Approve R71 shindig is that the party's organizers aren't sharing any results with the pro-gay partiers, except for the occasional trip up to the podium to announce positive R71 results. SECB got a quick glimpse of the party's secret private control room: The organizers had a wall full of shiny, giant flat screens with websites from all over the internet showing results to the esteemed few. SECB tried to start a revolt to bring information to the masses, but people were too busy listening to Astrud Gilberto to care about the free dissemination of election results.
We ran into Jamie Pedersen (and his lovely partner) at the party and asked him how his election night was going. He threw us the good old "cautiously optimistic" canard, adding "It's not full equality, but it's a big step forward." So we asked him how he felt about the other races tonight. Pederson responded, "I'm very fond of Sally [Bagshaw], so I'm happy about that." And how about that wacky Tom Carr? Looks like he's getting routed, eh? "I'm not all that surprised," Pedersen said. "If both The Stranger and the Seattle Times are against you, then you're in trouble." He's so dreamy!

The SECB also met Monica Guzman for the very first time (so adorable! so fashionable!) and we met up with Slog commenters Baconcat and Will in Seattle. Baconcat was most helpful in getting us information about the results (the SECB has a T-Mobile phone, and we are currently very undelighted with our service). And how's your evening, Will in Seattle? "There's no parking! I had to park up at 15th and Denny." Well, at least you've got all your political bases covered. (Pic of Will's Coat-of-Many-Liberal-Colors after the jump.)
Now the SECB is dragging our two-block-radius-hack-alerted ass to Purr's all-purpose 43rd Dem party, where an operative informs us that "It's pretty much just another karaoke Tuesday." Sounds good to us!

"The Archbishop of Cape Town has criticised as un-Christian a court decision that paves the way for gay marriages in South Africa.
The Most Rev Njongonkulu Ndungane stated that the November 30 ruling by South Africa's Supreme Court of Appeal that the common-law definition of marriage should be changed from a "union between a man and a woman" to a "union between two persons" was contrary to Christian teaching.
As far as we are concerned as a church, our understanding of marriage is between a man and a woman. And as a church, and the Anglican Church in particular, we have said no to same-sex unions" Archbishop Ndungane told the press.
The Christian teaching is that marriage is between a man and a woman. And therefore that is where the Church is," he said.
The ruling comes after a survey investigating social attitudes in South Africa recently revealed that 78 per cent of respondents believed it is always wrong for two adults of the same sex to have sexual relations.
The new research, which analyses the results of the 2003 South African Social Attitudes Survey, shows that only five per cent of South Africans said they saw nothing wrong with two adults having same-sex relations, it was reported."
“People are just not prepared to let it go,” said Steve Swart, a member of parliament representing the African Christian Democratic Party. “Legislation was passed. Legislation can always be relooked at.”
“To my knowledge the overwhelming majority of people were against same-sex marriage being legalized in South Africa under any circumstances,” said Errol Naidoo, president of the Family Policy Institute, an organization that promotes conservative family values."
