Outstanding Counties for I-1033 and Ref 71

Posted by on Tue, Nov 3, 2009 at 9:12 PM

Pierce County:

Initiative Measure No. 1033
YES 50.32%
NO 49.68%

Referendum Measure No. 71
APPROVED 48.05%
REJECTED 51.95%

Yakima County

I-1033
Yes 49.99%
No 50.01 %

Ref 71
Approved 35.92%
Rejected 64.08%

Fuuuck.

Nevertheless, state totals still have us here:

I-1033
Yes: 44.54%
No: 55.46%

Ref 71
Approved: 51.13%
Rejected: 48.87%

And these numbers look pretty damn official. (Look at the blue check marks!)

UPDATE: The stupid check marks mean nothing.

Yakima County shouldn't be that surprising, but I figured we'd have a shot at winning at Pierce County.

The surprising thing about Yakima is that I-1033 is losing there, too. That's right past surprising and on to frickin' amazing, really.

Either your numbers are fucked or the State's.

State says 71 is approved. 51.13 (approve) to 48.87 (reject)

Check your numbers.

Registered Voters in Pierce: 400,000
Likely Turnout: 200,000
4% of 200,000: 8,000 (Margin by which it is losing)

Registered Voters in Yakima: 100,000
Likely Turnout: 50,000
34% of 50,000: 17000

Current Lead for 71: 30,000

Don't panic yet.

Additional poll results for Pierce scheduled for 10:30. Let's hope some late turnout will boost up the approved numbers. Still winning statewide, however.

R-71 certainly is tight roping the 50% line, but I don't think Yakima will pull it under 50% as it's not a huge county. Pierce has that potential, but I'm optimistic about the outcome here.

That's not ALL of Pierce. There's more than 65,000 votes in Pierce. It's not over. And as long as it's close, it doesn't matter -- it didn't budge the overall totals much at all, just .05%. The only chance the bigots have is continued heavy returns from the sticks, and there just aren't enough people out there. More than half of King is out still. Garfield County? That's fewer than 700 noes -- who cares?

Also - we have 100,000 ballots ON HAND from King that aren't counted yet, and probably another 100,000 in the mail. King is swinging hard the right way on 71. (66-31)

Check out the county numbers -- Stevens County voters are rejecting 71 at 70%! I'm grateful to live in Thurston County.

1033 Is essentially tied in Yakima.

I was surprised about Pierce as well.

Also, the blue checks have been there since only Island and Franklin were reporting, I think Sam Reed just loves clipart.

@13 Exactly correct about the checkmarks. Ignore them -they only show who is ahead in ballots already counted.

those checkmarks are awful. the only new information tonight will come from the 10:30 count in Pierce, right? The rest is the daily mail-in tallies?

What gives with Pierce county?

They don't do mail-in ballots, so their reporting is slower.

Pierce is blue-collar and military. But Pierce doesn't matter, because they're virtually tied -- a few k either way won't swing it.

From what I can tell, NONE of the Peirce County poll votes have been counted (which is how my entire Tacoma family voted). So I'm optimistic for an improvement in the numbers when they get around to tallying those.

So did new Pierce County numbers come out? Sounds like we won't get anything new for King County until 4:30 pm tomorrow.
