Mallahan at Green Lake, Dow in West Seattle

Posted by on Tue, Nov 3, 2009 at 2:44 PM

The SECB's intrepid news intern hunted down elusive mayoral candidate Joe Mallahan at Green Lake this afternoon, where he was confronting joggers. And when Mallahan gets to speak on his own—without the filter of his campaign staff—he's pretty endearing:

Dow Constantine is after the jump.

We caught up with Constantine on a quiet neighborhood street in West Seattle, near his sign-waving crew on Fauntleroy Way SW. Is he gonna win, and, if so, why?

Endearing, Yes. The right guy for the job? No.

Vote for me because we should come together.

We should come together because a cop was murdered.

(Vote for me because a cop was murdered.)

Nice.

I'm sorry to ask this, since it is so petty, but why doesn't he move his upper lip?

Come together, move forward, come together, move forward, come together, move forward, did I forget to drive efficiencies?

If by "endearing" you mean awkwardly exploiting the murder of a cop, well then I guess he is.

I remember my and some friends from around the world (Japan, Mexico, Canada, various US states) running into Joe at Green Lake before.

He's a very friendly guy.

He'd make a great city manager for a small town like Everett, but not for the big time in Seattle where we need a real leader as a Mayor.

Even more petty: I abhor hearing people modify the word "unique". It's unique or it's not unique. If you feel the need to modify it with "really", the word you're probably looking for is "unusual".

Also, that cop thing was really weird. Is Mallahan worried that Seattle's on the brink of a race riot? Because that's not the vibe I'm getting.

He never says anything substantive; Always platitudes. He definitely is not a thinking man's or thinking woman's candidate. He strikes me as very simple minded. Nice, but simple minded.

Mallahan is just smarmy. Every time I hear him speak I end up turning off the TV, or stopping the YouTube video.

And thus, my decision is made to vote for anyone other than him. Not based on issues, or experience, or anything other than my visceral dislike of him and "bringing people together", "moving forward", and complete schmuckiness.
