The Mood: JJ McKay

JJ McKay, a socialite and gadabout who has been called the "Perle Mesta" (the original "hostess with the mostess") of Seattle is a Mallahan supporter.

(He's a personal friend of Mallahan's and hosted the fundraiser last month where Mallahan wept—some said because he was so moved by discussing youth homelessness, and others said because he felt "in over his head.")

"I'm enjoying some cocktails at the Four Seasons," he said in his perky Florida accent. "I feel that Joe is going to win. The poll that just came out said Joe is ahead and all the people I know—even some anti-establishment people—are voting for Joe."

McKay wonders if the night will be anti-climactic because a winner won't be announced. "But I think 1033 is going to collapse tonight, thank god. I just don't think the average person understands how government budgets work." R-71, he says, will be "close."

Why do I get the idea that the only "anti-establishment people" this fellow talks to are rent boys? I must be drunk already.

Just what does a "Florida accent" sound like? Redneck Riviera drawl, or South Florida Yankee carpetbagger?
