What's Known

Not much more than yesterday—or, at least, Seattle police aren't releasing any more details of their investigation into the killing of officer Timothy Brenton than they did at yesterday's briefing.

However, one thing that police spokesman Jeffrey Kappel was able to clarify this morning: Britt Sweeney, the officer-in-training who survived the shooting, was seated in the driver's seat of her parked patrol car when the ambush occurred. That means she was closest to the person firing the shots, which adds further weight to what the chief of Seattle detectives, Jim Pugel, said yesterday: "It's a miracle that she's alive."

I will be very happy to learn more about this crime as soon as they catch the messed up people who perpetrated it. I wonder if there will have been some semblance of a reason behind the attack or if it was just another terrible and random event.

My money is on this attack not being random, despite the media reports to the contrary. Or maybe I just watch too much "Law and Order".
