Somebody's Reading Books

Posted by on Mon, Nov 2, 2009 at 12:47 PM

According to the Lone Wolf Librarian, e-reading and book-related apps surpassed gaming apps on the iPhone in September. I still believe that the iPhone is the most popular e-reader in the world, despite the efforts of Kindles and Nooks.

Yeah, sometimes the most popular stuff we use didn't become popular because it's the best, but because it's the most convenient (e.g., Qwerty vs. Dvorak keyboards).

It doesn't really mean anything to say this. For instance search for Treasure Island or any other book that is in the public domain. You'll get multiple versions of it that you can purchase. This makes sense. If you are a developer and you develop your own ebook app and container, you can paste in any free book in a few seconds. Even if you only sell one copy, it was probably worth the effort.

Danged straight it is.

Once they develop slip covers for the iPhone so you can show off which eBook you're reading, sales will skyrocket.

Any recommendations for a good Iphone Reader ap? And where does one find and upload the books?

I haven't done extensive research, but I like Stanza. It has various resources within it that direct you to ways to download books, and as previously mentioned it links to lots of free public domain stuff.

It's also a free app, or at least it was when I got it.

It has other nice features like you can read portrait or landscape, black-on-white or white-on-black, remembers which page you were on last time you were reading (though I suppose that should be standard for any decent e-reader).
