Seattle Officer Killed

Posted by Brendan Kiley on Sun, Nov 1, 2009 at 9:06 AM

He was a field training officer, stopped at 29th Avenue and East Yesler with a female student officer. Seattle Times has the story:

The two were parked in a patrol car in the 100 block of 29th Avenue South, with the student officer in the driver's seat, when a light-colored sedan pulled up next to their car and someone fired multiple shots at the officers, police said.

The male officer was struck multiple times, police said.

The student officer, who suffered minor injuries, was able to get out of the police car and fire several shots at the sedan as it fled, police said. She also called for additional officers.

According to Seattle Crime blog, this may have something to do with a man recently released from King County Jail who was making threats against officers.

My sympathies to the police. This is a heinous crime and the perps must be brought to justice before anyone else is killed. Our police are on the frontlines everyday and they deserve our support.

Ah, gurldoggie, I was trying to remember the name of the stupe who hated cops. It was you.

Well, just rest comfortably that there's no cop in the world who you are better than. Not one cop who you can look at and say, "I'm better than him or her." Not one brutal psycho cop can you claim any moral superiority over. Your post proves it.

@ 9. I believe you mean "one cop fewer," cretin.

And if you hate cops so much, you should visit a country without any. I've been; they're hell.

The circumstances of this shooting are indeed horrible. Does anyone know if this qualifies as a hate crime? If someone is targeted because of their job, does that qualify? Not that cops need added protections in that regard--a cop killer will always face the harshest penalties, above even a child killer--but given the kerfluffle over the recently signed hate crime law, I'm curious.

It's truly a credit to the professionalism of your police officers that scumballs like Gurldoggie are still walking around with all of their teeth.

Hey all. Thanks for the kind words on behalf of this fallen officer. To the folks who have made the disparaging comments...Imagine that there are police so liberal and open minded that they read the Stranger...online even. You dumb asses still think we're all right wing fascist robots? I didn't like the police much until I grew up. Things have changed and there are many of us who hang out in your clubs, listen to your music and vote for your party. I hope the criminals you obviously prefer do right by you. Since I know they won't, the next time one of them stabs your ass for your Ipod, go ahead and call. I'll come running to help you even though you hate me and celebrate the death of my kind.

Poor Gurldoggie. Never amounted to anything. Copied someone else's words and thoughts from one place on the internet into another. Added no value to live.

to live = to life.

Gurldoggie, I piss on your shoes.

To the family members and SPD colleagues of the slain officer: our deepest sympathies.

@14- I apologize on behalf of the scum who use tragedies like this as an excuse to whine about some gripe they have with the cops. I remember about 6 months ago 5 cops were killed in Oakland trying to arrest a convicted child molester. About 50 people held a parade HONORING the cop killer. I still cringe when I think about it. Stuff like that makes me understand why people become Republicans.

@ 14. Thanks for giving this thread a reality check. I'm very sorry to hear about last night's events.

Would you mind sending me an email at brendan@thestranger.com? I could use a little advice from a Stranger-friendly officer.
