Who's Going To Win?

Posted by on Fri, Oct 30, 2009 at 10:03 AM

We've heard from you on the big ballot items (the mayor's race, the exec's race, R-71, I-1033). We've heard from you on the down-ballot races (city council, assessor, the port). Now let's go waaay down-ballot.

Remember: This is not about what you want to happen in the election that ends on Nov. 3. It's about what you think is actually going to happen.

Now then.

What's going to happen in the races Seattle school board once the votes are all counted?

Who's going to win Seattle School Board Position No. 5?

Who's going to win Seattle School Board Position No. 7?

Ah, yes. My favorite time of year: political prognostication. Let's all practice mind reading and guess how everyone else will vote. And today, instead of Eli just telling us his opinion of how everyone else will vote, we can guess too!

Yeah for punditry! As American as apple pie and the tradition of big business fucking over the world.

Goes without saying, but please link your reasoning to Ben, Ezra, or Sullivan.

I'm not even sure most people will vote in those races.

Most people don't vote in those races, except for Bass's folks, who are passionate. Furthermore, I think Bass will win because although she's built a strong case and united the anti-Bass factions, KSB decided to try a "green" campaign "with no literature, yard signs, or brochures, just a couple billboards". What a way to forum a winning campaign!

Well, as Michael De Bell (who is running for reelection unopposed) said, "Welcome to the end of the ballot."

This is just sad because Mary hasn't accomplished a lot as a TEAM player which is what being on the Board is (while, yes, still maintaining her integrity time and time again). Kay is bright but she will get schooled about what can and cannot be done in the snap of her fingers. Wilson doesn't know the district and Betty really doesn't seem to communicate very well. And, as someone who attends a lot of Board/SPS meetings, I rarely have seen Wilson, Kay or Betty at any of them. Why do they not go to meetings for an office they want to hold?

Wilson Chinn is at Roosevelt High School - he's deeply involved in education (my son knows him).
