PC Cast and Kristin Cast are a mother/daughter writing team. Tempted is book six of their House of Night series. It's about vampires, which they spell "vampyres." The Casts will be at Third Place Books tonight.
It's a day for authorial duos. Tom Cathcart and Daniel Klein read at University Book Store tonight. It apparently took two people to write Heidegger and a Hippo: Using Philosophy (and Jokes!) to Explore Life, Death, the Afterlife, and Everything in Between. In retrospect, I should've made Charles review this book.
Two spiritual books tonight. Eric Liu is at Elliott Bay Book Company, reading from a book titled Imagination First: Unlocking the Power of Possibility. I have nothing to say about that book. And at the University Temple United Methodist Church, Nancy Kehoe, the author of Wrestling with Our Inner Angels: Faith, Mental Illness and the Journey to Wholeness, talks about religious belief and mental illness.
The big reading, for which there will be a Suggest popping up soon, is at the Central Library. Greil Marcus is appearing for his big, glorious new book A New Literary History of America. It's over a thousand pages of American history as told by smart, popular authors like Jonathan Lethem, Gish Jen, and Sarah Vowell. This is obviously the reading of the night.
The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here. And if you're planning on staying in and you're looking for personalized book recommendations, feel free to tell me the books you like and ask me what to read next over at Questionland.
