In Case You Hadn't Seen This...

Posted by on Thu, Oct 29, 2009 at 4:20 PM

Slog reader kitchensync thinks you should read this article by Chris Grygiel at seattlepi.com:

A political action committee that supports Joe Mallahan's mayoral campaign illegally failed to report more than $100,000 in contributions from interests like Seattle firefighters and conservative business groups, the city's election watchdog said Thursday.

Wayne Barnett, executive director of the Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission, filed a two-count complaint against the Working for Seattle PAC and its chairman, Kenny Stuart, who is president of Seattle Fire Fighters Union, Local 27.

A hearing is scheduled for Friday afternoon. Barnett says he believes Stuart "committed material violations of the Seattle Elections Code" because he didn't register in a timely manner with the city and failed to properly disclose contributions.

"We've rarely filed charges in election cases," Barnett said in an interview. "This came to our attention on Monday. The gravity of $100,000 to spend in the mayor's race going unreported until a week before the election, that seemed to me that it was something to act on."

I'm shocked.

Oh, those wacky Mallabots.

Doesn't vote, his supporters violate city election law, he has the backing of big GOP wheels from out of Seattle, he's got the support of the BIAW and he is letting out-of-city interests control the future of the city.

They just love their Lord and Savior (tm).

Where are McGinn's attack ads and PR people on this? It's basically the only chance he's got.

It is $107 K by Firefighters and others -( including McCaw - Yes, the same guy who Susie H didn't report as giving her beautiful HQ -that house on the lake - Gee, the PDC is investigating that for lack of disclosure)
Do you think McGinn would liked to asked about this in the last forum or the last debate???

Mallahan sure does spend all that money wisely! I've been sent 3 different mailings from his campaign, which is money very well spent since I live just outside the city limits in unincorporated King County and couldn't vote for him if I wanted to! Which I don't. Joe, if you are such a great businessman, why do you target mailings at people that can't possibly vote for you?!?

Good luck, McGinn! You'd have my vote if I could vote for you. But I can't. At least you seem to understand that.

$100,000 is a lot of fucking money. This should be on the front page of the Times.
