'If it makes a guy happy to chop his willy off then fine, but what's wrong with putting on dresses and still being a man?'

This just convinces me that the worst artists are usually the most vocal. I know art critics love these chatty Cathies because it relieves said critics from the difficult task of looking at art with discerning eyes, much easier to listen to bloviating talentless idiots.

That was so inane.

First of all, transsexual men do not have their "willy chopped off." Secondly, they are not men - dammit! They are women - and, have always known they were not "boy" or "man." I am not transsexual - is there anyone out there who can put this better than I did?

yep.

I am a MTF trans woman (not man, btw)

The procedure is called "vaginoplasty" and correct, it isn't "copped-off" it's essentially inverted.

However. . . not all trans women have this procedure done. It's very personal. gender isn't what's in your pants.

more to the point about Perry. . . sounds like a fuck-leotard.

If his understanding of art is as good as his understanding of trans issues. . . his art must be shit.

. . . there is nothing wrong with a guy putting on a dress.

. . . Unless said guy is a homophobic / transphobic / closeted douche bag that wears a dress AND wants all his straight male privilege.

Wow. That was painful to read.

I agree with trans i am's (@4) good short explanation. Greyson Perry is a transvestite with a fetish for women's clothing. Not at all the same thing as being transsexual. (For that matter, not all transvestites have a sexual reaction to the clothing, as he does.)

Sexuality and gender are pretty darn open-ended!

@3:

Not all trans peeps know all along that they are in the wrong gender. I knew "something" wasn't quite right at 3 1/2. . . but at that age some can't define what "it" is.

And since that's the way my entire life was / is like. . . it's all I knew. It can take time to realize that others never consider such things.

I will also say since 3 1/2 i knew to shut up about it. . . wonder why?

. . .oh yeah, because people like Perry are what's seen and they don't fucking help anything.

Trans I am:
I keep wondering what society would be like if gender weren't policed into a rigid binary: my guess is that a lot of oppression would disappear. Life would be a whole lot better for people who don't quite fit a rigid binary ...which is most folks.

And, as an aside, most cross dressers are straight men.

I hope life is good for you....

I thought this was great. Lots of little Wildeian gems in there.

"Women often develop strategies to deal with that, like casting something in bronze so men acknowledge it as art."

Thanks! it is!

As an aside from your aside. . . yes, a number of CD'ers are men who are attracted to women.

Right - gender identity and who you are attracted to are two different things. Some are bi, some like men. But are any of them really "straight?" naw.

FWIW, Heterosexual and gay are terms that really don't work well when your trans. . . I am a trans woman, and always liked women. . . I guess I used to be heterosexual, but now that I transitioned. . . I'm gay, right? ;) (and. . . since I married before I was female. . . and I am now female. . . and still married. . . would mean. . . hmmmm.)

@10: Of course YOU think it's great; you have no standards. You are also are a prime example of my assertion equating the quality of so called art being proportionally inverse to the amount of verbiage spewed by an art careerist.

It sounds as though some people are a little jealous of other people's creative talent and ability to find platforms from which to express themselves to many people. Grayson only speaks for Grayson and doesn't claim to speak for you, so calm down dear ...

@13:

". . .That's why trannies tend to dress like their mothers. We almost fetishise the personalities and body types we were exposed to as children. When we suddenly find out we've married our mother, it's liberating to a certain extent."

Sounds like Grayson was flippantly speaking for all "trannies" to me. He doesn't speak for for me and I could give a shit about his "art."

If he has a platform because he gets his kicks out of sensationalizing trans peeps with pseudo pop psych bullshit he pulled out of his own ass. . . well. . . Fuck Him.
