Boom Boom. Two suicide bombers explode in Iraq, killing 150 Baghdadians.

Boom Boom Pow. Three helicopters crash in Afghanistan, killing fourteen Americans.

"Maaaaaaaaaybe..." Iran bats eyelashes, "hints" at acceptance of U.N. nuclear deal.

What? It means they said they "could export some uranium."

Basically, We Will All Catch Fire and Fall Into the Sea and Die. DOT simulates what will happen to the viaduct in an earthquake.

It Was Hard to Find the Hole Because There Was Menses Everywhere. "Obama finally golfs with a woman."

Elections Are Happening. In Uruguay, Afghanistan, Tunisia, New York, Seattle.

[Some Sort of Appropriate Smiths Lyric About Dying and/or Not Dying.] Morrissey didn't die.

"Nobody Named Howard Lived There." SPD apprehends hilarious/sad green-haired lady-burglar.

Well, That's Nice of Them. "Kids care for mom without arms, legs."

But What If My Dream Is to Never Read an Inspirational Book By Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Moon? Pro football hall of famer Warren Moon urges readers never to give up on their dreams.

The REAL deal on the Stranger staff - we have suspected it for years.

My experience is that this sort of stuff ended in 7th grade - when we figured out how to beat off.

"Baghdadians?" I don't think that's a word.

The viaduct video just proves the stakeholder committee was right! The viaduct has to come down and the tunnel plan delays bringing the viaduct down for years! McGinn is right - get it down asap.

I love that the video of the viaduct was made by Parson Brinckerhoff, a construction company that will make millions on the tunnel. The same company responsible for Boston’s Big Dig.

Parson Brinckerhoff is the same company that has placed one of their top executives, Jared Smith, on Mallahan’s “kitchen cabinet” and given him campaign contributions.

slog missing health care debate drama. Very weird since this was the whole point of one year of Obama praise, no?

Reid and Schumer say they have 57 votes in the Sente for the stronger public option plan, called the opt out plan. So really, with a little help from the prez we could get it, right? A little arm twisting or carrot holding.

But no, the prez WANTS the weaker trigger option. Why? Because then we get the Snowe vote. The theory of the white house is, this gives cover to the conservadems in places like louisiana and nebraska because then they can say well gee, no, we didn't create socialism and gooly look a republican supports it so it's not so bad.

The theory being that then they get reelected and same w conservadems in Congress.

Well he's right to have that as a goal who wants our majority to go down big time?

But why couldn't he help them get reelected thru just going to those states and mobilizing and making the case?

And in the end they're all going to get called communists and socialists and "Obamalovers" (a likely new code word) anyway, aren't they?

But if Slog wans to be more about farts and funny headlines, go for it.

@7 makes my point.

But, the timing of the release of this video can be nothing other than political. I hope SLOG does some background research on this.

@9: http://www.seattlepi.com/transportation/…

Gregoire Endorses Surface/Transit + I-5 fix:
"What Greg (Nickels) and Ron (Sims) and I have talked about is: 'Let's stop thinking about replacement of the Alaska Way Viaduct and start thinking about how do we do transportation in all of Seattle from I-5 to the waterfront,' " Gregoire said.

"We really are fundamentally not efficient and effective now. Our offramps from I-5 are not efficient to the flow of traffic. What international city do we know of that would have two-way traffic in downtown? What international city do we know of that would have street parking in the middle of downtown?

"We have not stepped back, collectively ... and said, 'How can we make this a user-friendly, international city?'

"That's why a 'surface option' is on the table now," Gregoire said. "If we simply say replace the viaduct, and if that's all we do, the surface option won't work. I still stand by that. I've looked at it, the ramifications to the waterfront are terrible. We won't have any legitimate freight mobility. ... The surface option works only (and I don't know if it does) but only if you look at the totality."

Engineers warned her, so she said she's moving forward:
Engineers have said the viaduct could collapse in a major earthquake.

Gregoire said she wants the state to start dismantling the viaduct by 2012.

"I am determined to take it down before it falls down," she said.

Oh wait, nevermind. There won't be an earthquake until after 2016! Gregoire and WSDOT have it on good authority.

Meanwhile, they're quietly filling a contingency budget in case there's a need to litigate and/or pay out citizens who lose family members in a viaduct collapse.

They simulated what would happen to the viaduct, but not what would happen to a tunnel? Are they nuts? Before you build that tunnel, you had BETTER have an idea of how big an earthquake it can withstand without collapsing!

Anyone else get a sudden flashback to the banned-from-network TV X-Files episode, "Home"? You know the one.
