Reading Today

Cindy Hudson reads at Third Place Books today. Book by Book: The Complete Guide to Creating Mother-Daughter Book Clubs is a title that produces no further need for explanation.

Or you could go to the last day of Steam-Con in SeaTac. There will be tea parties. And lots of brass. If you enjoy Victoriana, you would probably enjoy this event.

And there's the last day of Seattle Bookfest in Columbia City, too. I'm appearing on a panel with Mary Ann Gwinn and Adam Woog of the Seattle Times in a panel titled Meet the Critics. Based on both my recent feelings of disgust toward the Seattle Times and my doubtful attitude toward this new Bookfest, I fully expect this to be a delightfully awkward hour.

The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here. And if you're planning on staying in and you're looking for personalized book recommendations, feel free to tell me the books you like and ask me what to read next over at Questionland.

A friend invited me to his reading yesterday. Turned out it was in a portable, where some perfectly nice publishers are stuck outside the main (dilapidated school) building. Exhibition rooms were extremely cramped - only Third Place Books rated (paid for?) an adult-size pace. Roberta Gregory sittin in a cramped corner at least looked like she genuinely didn't give a shit.

Pete Dexter fuckin fuckity fuck rocked. And (assuming he ever lets his own out of his mouth for a sec) the self-delighted Garth Stein can suck my balls.

Rode the train home laden down. Ran into an acquaintance volunteering, he told me way fewer attendees than they'd hoped.
