Reading Today

Posted by on Sat, Oct 24, 2009 at 10:06 AM

Okay! A lot of events today, including a poetry class and a reading of journal entries by Palestinians, and then some more events, too.

University Branch of Seattle Public Library is hosting a two-hour class on how to write a novel, with tips on novel-writing resources in Seattle at 1 pm today. It's free! At the same time, a Masonic Temple is hosting something called Bodylove. This is a meeting in which people can "confront and positively redirect feelings of body shame" with "reading, facilitated discussion, and writing exercises." Frankly, I think the novel-writing class would probably do more for your self-image.

Third Place Books is hosting Julie Weston, the author of The Good Times are All Gone Now, which is a well-titled book about the triumphs and travails of an Idaho mining town.

Steamcon continues in SeaTac. Grab your goggles and go!

And in Columbia City, it's time for a new iteration of Seattle Bookfest. There are a number of authors and vendors at this reading who I like quite a bit. But the problem is that they're all local; you can see any of them any time. Chin Music Press disagrees with my assessment that this will be a washout. I honestly hope they're right, but I don't think they're right.

The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here. And if you're planning on staying in and you're looking for personalized book recommendations, feel free to tell me the books you like and ask me what to read next over at Questionland.

had a lot of fun at bookfest but there were only two real highlights #1 Chin books sold slightly used books for $5 - totally worth checking out new authors in hardback... #2 Seattle Public Library's book swap. $1 for any find there.
