Today in Maverickiness

Posted by on Fri, Oct 23, 2009 at 11:40 AM

Sarah Palin has finally made a new endorsement on her Facebook page:

I am very pleased to announce my support for Doug Hoffman in his fight to be the next Representative from New York's 23rd Congressional district. It's my honor to endorse Doug and to do what I can to help him win, including having my political action committee, SarahPAC, donate to his campaign the maximum contribution allowed by law. Political parties must stand for something. When Republicans were in the wilderness in the late 1970s, Ronald Reagan knew that the doctrine of "blurring the lines" between parties was not an appropriate way to win elections. Unfortunately, the Republican Party today has decided to choose a candidate who more than blurs the lines, and there is no real difference between the Democrat and the Republican in this race. This is why Doug Hoffman is running on the Conservative Party's ticket.

Dear Sarah Palin:
Please please please please please run for president on the Conservative Party ticket. You will totally teach those Republicans a lesson. Thank you.
(heart,)
Paul Bobby

P.S. Please make sure to feature pictures of Ronald Reagan prominently on all your campaign materials. So people know what you stand for!

Sara Palin is too perfect for this Earth. How an anyone be so absolutely right in every way? I just know there must be some flaw hiding behind the curtain. I almost think I would love her more if she wasn't such a wet dream and could become more human to us.

The great thing about the republicans fighting each other is that they'll split their own voters and help get more dems elected during the midterms (and further ahead, if they keep at it).

If only the dems could actually DO something, I'd be even happier.

DOUG. 4
I'm guessing "Reagan Democrats" outnumber "Palin Democrats" by about 10,000 to 1.

Even though she is keeping a low profile, you liberals are still terrified of Palin, I see.

Laugh now while you can, because I predict that she will sweep the ursurper homosexual out of power in 2012 (if, of course, he doesn't cancel that election) in a 50 state sweep.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the Conservative Party and the Liberal Party special New-York-only parties that stand in for "Republican" and "Democrat" in most elections? Isn't this a distinction without a difference?

Oh, this is just delicious. If anyone can successfully split GOP apart, it's Sarah Palin.

@6- Basically yes. A candidate can be endorsed by multiple parties in New York State. The Conservative Party (and the Liberal Party and the Independent party and etc...) rarely run their own candidates, they just add big party candidates to their column.

BUT if what is happening is that the Conservative Party is running their own candidate against moderate GOP candidates, then they are splitting Hard Right vote away from the GOP. It sounds like they're trying to force the GOP to go for their guy.

@6,

In most New York elections, yes. The Republican and Democratic candidates will usually run under a bunch of other "parties." As one example, Hillary Clinton ran under the "Working Families Party" (or some such crap) in addition to the Democratic Party in 2000. In this case, however, it sounds like there already is an official Republican candidate whom Mr. Hoffman is running against.

Why no love from her for Susan Hutchinson?

Does she regard her as competition?

@5:
"Homosexual"? Wait, what? Is that what the consies are calling Obama now? This makes no sense.

I'm really starting to think that "Lord Basil" and "Loveschild" are really Slog staffers trolling for hits.

@12: It's always hard to tell on the web, but I'm pretty sure Lord Basil is fake, whereas Loveschild is real. I'm not saying that everything Loveschild says about herself is true, but that there does exist a single human entity out there, calling himself/herself "Loveschild", who types in all those comments, and who holds those professed opinions and cares about them. I think the Basil persona has no such real grounding. The person or persons who type in Basil's comments are in it to raise hackles, or perhaps to amuse --whether the opinions professed conincide with the opinions held by the person doiong the typing, well if so it's only coincidental.

Well said, @14. You've clearly put way too much thought into this.

I can guarantee, though, that Lord Basil isn't a Stranger staffer. We don't have the spare time to pull that off.

@14:
I'm starting to think you are right. 'cuz really, all 50 states will vote against Obama? Even MA? This is trolling, not honest opinions.

(And @16, I was mostly kidding about the Stranger staffer thing. But honestly, it is hard for me to find better explanations for the crazy.)

I'm from this district, and it is a real 3-way race. The Conservative party did not nominate the same candidate as the GOP, they feel she's a Democrat in disguise. She's pro-choice, labor friendly and in favor of gay marriage. So even though Dems are a minority in this district, the Democratic candidate is currently leading the polls with 35%.

But now, the Rep candidate is having some scandals. Her husband called the cops when he felt a reporter was hassling her, so that may lose her a lot of votes. Waiting for the next poll to see who'll benefit.
