I don't really agree completely that this is how the left and right differ (how does the right not interfere with social lives and society?), but maybe they are not describing my society.

@2, in Britain, the Labour Party is red and the Conservative Party is blue (and the Liberal Democrats are yellow). There's nothing inherently liberal about the color blue.

Obviously such generalizations won't be spot on, but idea that conservatives think that "the world is fine as it is" is ridiculous. "The world was fine as it was" fits better.
