You guys had Mark Twain under a different "Mayor Name" in 1897-1904. That's awesome.

However, it is not yet clear whether the identified funding approach can weather "stress tests" (potential cost over-runs, decreased revenues compared to projections)

Additional funding likely will be necessary for additional amenities that are selected during planning and design. It is not yet clear what sources may be available for additional funding

Wow, this plan is coming down faster than the Viaduct would in an earthquake.

"Veronica Rodriguez, 47, said school officials are trying to force her daughter — who doesn't even own a dress — to appear more feminine.

"The tux is who she is. She wears boys' clothes. She's athletic. She's gay. She's not feminine," said Rodriguez during an interview Thursday at the ACLU office."

I have such respect for this mother. Also, this inspires some serious hope, in spite of the asshole principal.

Please Dominic don't suggest to McGinn that he shave off his beard. That would be scary.

Things I learned from the mayor picture
Mark Twain was our mayor?
We had a woman mayor in the early 1900s???
Joe Namaeth was a big influence in 1978.
How did that black guy get in there and two mayors later we got Nickols?

The trend to keep one minority group in power seems to be alive and kicking (white men - 34% of Seattle's population).

Spring Cleaning

On March 9, 1926, running on a platform that stressed "municipal housekeeping," the 58-year-old Landes defeated Edwin J. ("Doc") Brown by a margin of 6,000 votes to become the first woman mayor of any major American city. She set to work, calling on good citizens to blow the whistle on bootleggers and offered $1 a year to those who pledged to report reckless drivers. She instructed the police force to see that regulations for dance halls and cabarets were enforced.

Landes turned the tide of widespread corruption in city government with an honest, scandal-free administration. She appointed qualified professionals to head city departments, improve public transportation and parks, and put the city's financial house in order. One of her administration's legacies is the Civic Auditorium (renovated as the Seattle Opera House for the 1962 World's Fair), for which she broke ground.

Voters Succumb to "Sex Prejudice"

In her bid for re-election, Landes received endorsements from all of Seattle's major newspapers, the Central Labor Council, the Prohibition Party, and women's organizations. Despite her high ratings, she lost the March 13, 1928, election to Frank Edwards, a political unknown. She attributed her defeat primarily to her opponent's lavish campaign budget and to "sex prejudice."

There was a popular sentiment that a city of stature should have a man at the helm. Ironically, in 1931 angry voters recalled Mayor Edwards. A tool of private utilities interests, he short-circuited his own career when he fired the popular J. D. Ross from City Light.

There's no way that the bias pro-gay 9th Circuit is going to accurately see the danger that wants to be done here. My guess is that they will rule in the same way that the three member panel did. Eyman is not helping either, the petitions for R-71 are totally different form any other because there have been clear threats and intentions of persecution that have been made against the signers.

And Joseph Ignatius Reilly Mallahan you are a peepeepants for bailing last night, a charlatan, the hole of an ass, the weed of a dick. Disappear. Become a priest.

Your only accomplishment, and it is admittedly a titanic achievement, has been to make some goodhearted people decide McGinn must be a principled genius if only because you so clearly are not.

@16: And yet the state and the courts disagree with your assertion. And the Massachusetts Attorney General said that the people posting the info from their anti-gay petition in 2005 were doing their legal duty, applauding them for their pro-transparency methods.

Also, you're full of hot air-- there were no credible threats and no history of a concentrated attack against those who support anti-family/anti-equality measures.

Lies lead only one place, Loveschild.

@21: The funny thing is that the lawyer for Protect Marriage Washington, Stephen Pidgeon, is a virulent racist who has filed more cases than Orly Taitz questioning the President's nationality. This on the heels of Gary Randall's loose ties to the racist VNN. Let's review Pidgeon:

His August 2009 federal filing: http://www.phnmedia.com/petition-fed-gj/
Suing Sam Reed for casting Washington's votes for Obama: http://decalogosintl.org/documents/BROE_…
Which the state dismissed: http://decalogosintl.org/documents/BROE_…

Just google "Stephen Pidgeon Obama". It's good readin'.

19 This is not concerning Massachusetts, i know that's the type of state you like (the one arbitrarily ruled by courts), where people have no voice but this is not the case. People have gone to great lengths in the midst of threats and harassment so that the people of the state get a say on the laws coming out of Olympia.

What do you think is the the purpose behind "Who", they've made their intentions very clear from the start and they're not the only one. But you probably think that's okay because it serves you well to corner people and shut them up out of fear. I'm still hopeful that the more the public sees these whole scenario play out and the tactics that have been unleashed by the side you defend the more clear of a decision they will have once they enter the booth.

And the tunnel is going to go the way of the monorail - shot down because the financing plan is not workable.

@25: Loveschild, there was a public petition to bring a constitutional convention to pass an anti-equality amendment and a subsequent public referendum in Massachusetts. That effort failed. The Governor threatened the legislature and told them they had better "respect the constitution". They got one of two votes in the legislature passed, but the second failed and so did the referendum effort. They couldn't even manage to get 25% of the legislature behind it, even with more than enough conservative legislators with strongly religious districts.

More than that: after Governor Romney took a stance on marriage and in the wake of his reaction to the state supreme court ruling, his approval rating plummeted. The only person who has ever had a lower approval rating in the state has been current Governor Deval Patrick, who screwed up a lot of vital economic standards, like road funding (afaik, they can't pave a two lane highway without taking out a freakin' loan), but even then, he's just barely less popular than Romney was.

I know you like to make vast exclusions for any state that approves of marriage equality, but you're simply not operating in any realm of reality.

More than that, you're dangerously paranoid. I have a certain fear that you're putting certain others in extreme danger with your erratic and fearful ways.

And on MSNBC both Scarborough and Eugene Robinson agreed Obama was "disingenuous" in flipping off the New Orleans fellow who said why can't you get us a full service hospital by now, four years after Katrina?

Obama spent about four hours in New Orleans then jetted to a $30,000 per person fund raising event in SF.

HE said he couldn't just write a check because "there's this thing called the constitution," providing the whining populace with his constitutional law perfesser analysis.

Of course when it was banks and auto makers and wall street, we found a way.

Note to Kent a/k/a the Ninth Ward of Puget Sound: good luck this winter! The Corps of Engineers is doing a heckuva job!
