great sharp comments, and wonderful to mention the book (the commitment = gays only want families like everyone = WE own traditional values) and how o'donnel said there were many heteros at the march who are tired of their gay friends and relatives being discriminated against.

you see? because there was a march, the issue got on national tv. and on msnbc actually got a fair and natural presentation, spreading the message.

as dan said, it takes marching, it takes media, it takes organizing it takes everything.

bravo.

Is it just me, or is Dan starting to look more and more like Ron Reagan Jr.?

@8. It's you. Dan looks more like a masculine David Schwimmer.

why didn't dan correct the intro that said the washington ballot measure was about marriage? it's not about marriage. that's what the Reject 71 people say it is about.

I like Dan, but I can't help but notice how much less combative he is while on national TV, compared to the tone he takes while preaching to the choir on Slog. Perhaps, in this light, he could find a little empathy for the HRC and the President?

I would have thougght you'd have to actually do something every now and again to be an "activist".

The worst thing that the President can do is to allow himself to be seen as making an arbitrary decision at the orders of activists like Savage when it comes to this. If he truly wants to reform the health care system and the economy, and the war, going over the input of the military and the generals on the ground would be tantamount to political castration on his part.

Nice, Dan. Much better than when you choked on the Spin Factor a while back... "You can't cherry pick your vices."
"No, but you might offer them some falafel". Be that as it may?

I was kind of taken aback by the moderate, reasoned tone and the total lack of firebreathingness. While others might have preferred such a thing? I thought it was an exceptionally good way to present the issue.

Well played, sir.

#13 - Jared, Dan used to be a pitbull on TV with people in opposition to equality. I think he made a recent conscious decision to be no less passionate about his opinions in a more polished, TV-savvy sort of way. As I recall, he's mentioned that there have been one or two occasions where he later reviewed recordings of his performance and was unhappy with the aggression of his responses - his message, he felt, was lost in his anger.

I think what I like most about Dan is how fucking fast on his feet he is. I'm so glad he's on our side.

As for his looks, yeah, middle age is becoming on him. He's gone from lanky, young gay man to slender, distinguished-looking man of letters. And those of us in Seattle who have read him and followed his journey since the very early 90s are very proud that he's a part of our city.

Stellar performance! Way to emphasize the need for Dem politicians to follow the lead of the public on the repeal of DADT.

#24 - I agree. Last night he was masterful, and almost moved me to tears. He appropriately moderated his tone to meet the context, which is why I don't understand his intolerance for politicians and groups (like the HRC) which moderate their message deal with broad constituencies. I trust that Obama, as Commander-in-Chief, knows better than Dan when the best time to repeal DADT will be.
