At Pilot Books, Joey Comeau reads. He is reportedly a "transgressive fiction writer" and he is factually the co-creator of A Softer World.
Monte Schulz, the son of Peanuts creator Charles Schulz, reads from This Side of Jordan, a novel that is the "first of a planned trilogy on America’s Jazz Age" at Third Place Books tonight.
And at University Book Store, Sarah Vowell, who is the cutest human being on earth, reads from her new-in-paperback book The Wordy Shipmates. Pardon me whilst I swoon. Ashley Wearly reviewed this book for us last year:
I've always loved the absurdity of history—if for nothing else, than for my own self- preservation. Dwelling on the absurd aspects of the past keeps us from being overwhelmed by the depressing aspects, and it seems reasonable that stomaching the morally questionable rise of modern civilization requires some perspective. Fortunately, nobody understands this necessity better than Sarah Vowell. She approaches the brutal stories of America with equal parts morbidity and joie de vivre.
Any of these three readings would be a fine reading of the night.
