McGinn: "More Seattle process! Yay!"

Did you notice the UPS truck in the back ground of the Mallahan ad when he's all talking about "local business?"

And those nice people nodding with him while he speaks at the beginning... That's corporate management: fill your office with yes men. Someone maybe should tell Mallahan that city politics is full of no men, and he's gonna have to deal with them, because he can't fire them.

I'll admit I'm not informed enough to make an intelligent vote, but I know I want to hug Mike McGinn. He's adorable. Is that an option on the ballot? Hugs?

Mallahan, The Idiot: working hard to earn his nickname.

Mallahan's ad reminds me a little of Larry Phillips in the primary. I half expected him to juggle a salmon, a latte and a ZUNE

If Mallahan loses the election, he certainly does not have an acting career ahead of him (and yeah, the people standing around nodding are...... creepy).

I think McGinn's authenticity shows through in his. It's nice to see actual photos of real people being involved. I like the colors too - a nice change from the standard.

@4: Um, UPS was actually started in Seattle. Though its not a "local" business anymore, it is one of the city's greatest success stories.

isnt rule number one of political ads to make your candidate active with "colorful" video & happy music and the opposition shown in low resolution "black and white" photos with scary music?

Neither ad offers any substance (Jobs! Teamwork! and of course... Tough economic times).

I think Mallahan's ad is more upbeat than McGinn's.

McGinn will listen to what people say, then do what he wants.

@9 That's why that Obama guy lost last year with all those B&W videos, right?

Cracks me up when McGinn talks about listening. The only thing he likes listening to is his own voice.

Ad number one is creepy. Ad number two is annoying.

McGinns ad reflects his leadership style: boring, outdated, and soul-less.

The sad background music and black and white photo's are inline with exactly what Seattle will look and sound like if this guy wins.

@13, that is bullshit. McGinn does not only like the sound of his own voice. He also likes listening to people who agree with him.

He's lost out on a ton of support by flatly dismissing potential contributors who try to engage him in examining his premises a little. He's an awesome guy, infinitely more appealing than Mallahan, but drives good people away by giving them the "you're either for me or against me" treatment.

Rock and a hard place.

@ 13, Have you ever actually talked to McGinn and Mallahan?

I do think it's funny that of all the corresponding videos that come up at the end, McGinn's are filled with McGinn doing things and speaking to people. There aren't any corresponding videos of Mallahan in my selection.

If I wanted Greg Nickels Jr., Joe Mallahan would be a shoo in.

But I don't.

McGinn does listen to people and then decides they are joining the chorus of voices in his head.

Stylistically, though I prefer his ad. It does seem that Mallahan has consistently gone way out his way not to make a point.

If you listen closely, you just might recognize the lovely voice in the "paid for" segment.

Anyone else see the billowing PINK flag in McGinns commercial? I was completely unaware Rob Holland, candidate for Port Commissioner, endorsed McGinn.

McGinn's website doesn't list Holland as an endorser, and Holland's website doesn't state he's supporting McGinn either. Looks to be like McGinn is using the image of a prominent black gay man to raise his own image and hijack his voters.

@24 I think what we can gather from the ad is McGinn isn't afraid to reach out to people, whether they've endorsed him or not. I don't read anything more into it than that.
