That Must Have Been Some Kiss

Posted by on Mon, Oct 12, 2009 at 9:33 AM

It looks like Tom "Kiss My Gay Ass" Ammiano owes Arnold Schwarzenegger an apology...

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed two gay rights bills, one honoring late activist Harvey Milk and another recognizing same-sex marriages performed in other states.... The governor last year vetoed the measure declaring May 22 a state day of recognition for Milk, suggesting that the former San Francisco supervisor be honored locally. But he subsequently named him to the California Hall of Fame.

Or maybe Tom can offer to kiss and make up with Arnold's Austrian ass?

It's nice to see a member of the Republican party do what is right and not cave in to the requests of the closed-minded religious zealots.

Tom's outburst had much less to do with the creation of Harvey Milk Day and more to do with the slashing of funding and services for HIV/AIDS patients, slashing social services in general at all levels, and really just running the state as though it were a corporation. Schwarzenegger comes across as genial most of the time but he's seen as a right-wing ideologue by many people here and his solutions to this year's budget crisis didn't change anyone's mind about that.

@3 Funds for just about everything the California state government does have had to be cut across the board because the 30-year-old chickens from Prop. 13 are home to roost. Every group is mad about its priorities being cut, but it's the whole system that's broken. There's no money because the state constitution prohibits increasing property taxes. You think things suck in California right now? Go ahead and pass Tim Eyeman's Initiative 1033 and Washington will be the same or worse in a generation.

@4 - And the forces for sustaining Prop. 13 are still as powerful as they were when it was first passed. Never underestimate the stubbornness of regressive fiscal policies in the minds of people who think government and corporate governance should operate on the same model.

Y.F. Redux @7, boy do I.

The Gubernator was put into office by the same guys who bankrupted California, and pushed through the special election to oust Davis, namely Enron.

Arnold was the one on the list with enough name value to gain a plurality over the gazillion other candidates.

We got reamed so hard up the ass on that one that we still have sore throats.
