This weekend, the National Equality March will stomp and scream on the Capitol lawn in Washington, D.C., to demand that Congress and Barack "fierce advocate" Obama fulfill promises to end Don't Ask, Don't Tell, repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, and pass the Hate Crimes bill. The local action—part of the two-day LGBT Equality Weekend—will march from Volunteer Park this Sunday at 2:00 p.m. to the federal courthouse downtown.

One of the local organizers is Carmen Rivera, a junior studying criminal justice at Seattle University, studying criminal justice. “I would like to go work for the US Marshall’s office or Seattle Police Department,” she says.

“Originally this caught my eye because I came from an area very ignorant about diversity,” says Rivera, who grew up in Renton. She says the fight for LGBT rights ranges from the local—like issues addressed at a symposium on Saturday on gay health, transgender rights, and hate crimes—to the state and national struggle for marriage equality.

In addition to Sunday’s march, Equality Weekend includes a symposium at Seattle University and an AIDS vigil on Saturday. Visit www.seattleoutprotest.org for a complete schedule.

It doesnt look like CSPAN has the DC March on their schedule as of yet. does anyone know if anyone will be live streaming it and the stage?
this is the first MOW I have missed (I dont count that Robin Tyler disaster as a MOW) and I am sad and disappointed to not be on the streets stomping my feet with the rest of the folks.

I worry there will not be enough people to make a decent point, but I cant make arrangements on such a sort notice to spend the money to do a weekend on the eastern coast. It took us 18 months to organize the 1993 MOW (my room mate at the time was one of the national cochairs) I just wonder if there was enough time to get this one together and get the word out to (as one of the NYC homos referred to the space between the NY and california) 'The Hinterlands"

Yes, C-Span will be doing live coverage of the march and speakers.

This is the buzz from DC: "Momentum and visibility here in the DC area is excellent, local folks say that they cannot remember any previous march or event with as high a visibility in the neighborhoods and campuses as this march. The Metro Weekly magazine, the main DC LGBT publication, is devoted exclusively to the march and the Washington Blade, the main gay paper both online and print, is also all about the march and events surrounding it. 365gay.com is promoting march events and will be streaming the rally live online. Time Magazine is covering the march and NBC national is following the Dallas contingent from Texas to DC and throughout the march for airing on network TV. And press conferences don't even start till tomorrow. Etc., etc., etc. In other words, we've got excellent momentum. "
