R-71 Violates God's Mandate

Posted by Dominic Holden on Wed, Oct 7, 2009 at 3:02 PM

The creator of heaven and earth wants you to reject Referendum 71, because "he made a woman and brought her into the man," says the narrator of the new ad by Protect Marriage Washington. "Thus god established and defined marriage between man and a woman. What god has joined together, let not man put asunder."

We can't embed the (hilarious) video because "the creator of this video has not given you permission." But you can watch it here.

OMG! Based on the still of that video alone it is quite clear that zombies are against R-71, as are unevolved (they don't believe in evolution anyway) proto-humanoids.

@2: I think it's brought her UNTO the man. But hey, I hate Genesis and Phil Collins.

I love how the VO is, at least to me, clearly African-American. We have seen that traditionally Black churches are where anti-gays try to stir up a lot of shit...

You know, the bigots are pretty cagey about actually coming out and saying that all gays are pedophiles, but they sure do like to imply it.

"Protect our children" from what? Seriously, I don't get it, and I don't think they do, either. I think it's the equivalent of taken-aback spluttering when some idiot who's spouting homophobic garbage around the water cooler suddenly learns that his supervisor, who is walking by, has a gay brother.

I'm not quite sure exactly how they think that letting homos get married is going to put their children at more risk of being victimized by those pedos. Do gays power up when they're married? Is the totality of a gay marriage even more sinful and dangerous than the sum of its parts? Is there some sort of molestation Voltron effect here?

Bizarre. Disgusting and bizarre.

Anyway, don't be so down on freaky shit, @2. It's good times, though I hear it makes you gay.

It's like an Awake magazine come to life. Except the Witnesses don't vote. . .
I'm scared. What about the tiger and the two wildebeests in the picture? What does god want us to think about them? If I promise to support opposite marriage do I get a pretty tiger?

Can't watch the video at work, but I can see the still.

Playing in dead leaves is a great ad for Christian bigots.

Is it just me or is this ad so over the top that it will offend independents who will then vote to approve Ref 71?

Running religious ads where just under 45% of the population goes to church and barely over 50% considers religion "somewhat important" to them is a great tactic, PMW.

I think you should play this all over the state. Especially Seattle.

Looks like this ad might actually confuse some of their target audience into voting for R71 in order to reject SB-5688.

Is the LDS behind this ad? Look at this comment from over on my diary:
PROOF of Mormon Church Involvement in PMW?

The intro pic of Adam and Eve is a painting by Lowell Bruce Bennett, and the painting happens to be the intellectual property of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. See the copyright notice here, on their official website (especially note if you click the picture to enlarge, you get a separate copyright attached to the image itself):

http://www.lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?hi…

It so happens that the LDS/Mormon church is vociferous about protecting its intellectual property, so if this ad doesn't get promptly pulled, you can count on it having been used by LDS church permission!

The second painting in the video, of the Sermon on the Mount, was painted by Carl Heinrich Bloch. It is not the property of the LDS church, but that church uses the picture frequently in their publications, as at this location on their official website.

http://www.lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?hi…

The second painting may not prove much, but that first one is a dead giveaway of Mormon church involvement in the production of this advertisement!

"When any society says that I cannot marry a certain person, that society has cut off a segment of my freedom." - Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1958.

Wow. That's really... um... weak. Frankly, that's the kind of ad that loses you campaigns. Loses them _badly_. At least they aren't pretending anymore that it's anything other than a religious dictate.

It is good to see that they are now admitting their desire to turn Washington into a Christian theocracy. I do hope that religious peoples outside of the x-tian tradition are paying attention to this ad… “first they came for the…”

My one concern is that this will make voters especially Seattle voters think that their campaign is so inept it can’t win.

We need to donate to APPROVE71.org volunteer our time and energy and most importantly VOTE and remind our friends and loved ones to vote.

Don’t let the theocrats win.

The biggest thing I got from this ad is that if they can ignore the "whom god has joined let no one put asunder" part (Uh, divorce?), we can ignore the "[god] made a woman and brought her into the man" part.

And if you #really# want to protect children, the only way to do that is to vote to Approve Referendum 71 so that the kids already being raised in 18% of all same-sex couple households get the same pretection and stability for their family as every other child.

UHH...when did Adam present eve with a wedding ring, or 5 goats, or even a piece of cheese?? According to the ad (& maybe even the bible), Adam and Eve never have a proper wedding. In that sense, they're not "married"...unless you consider random people calling each other 'husband' or 'wife' marriage.

So Adam & Eve's type of marriage doesn't compare with modern day (US) "marriage". For starters, there's more than 2 people on the planet...and "gay marriage" is no more divine than the blatant incest resulting from Adam & Eve's god-inspired union.

@5 - Do gays power up when they're married?

Actually, you have to be at least a level 6 gay to even get married. If powers are combined through a "marriage" it results in a Captain Planetesque situation in which all children and straight people can be sodomized simultaneously... and like it.
