Obama is floundering on how to deal with the economy.
His aides are clueless.
Be afraid.

speaking of Obama's clueless aides; he had been assured by Chicago and his own advisors that if he went to Denmark it would put Chicago over the top to win the games.
as we know, he went and Chicago came in LAST.

@1, this is true, but I don't think any of the Republican candidates would have had any more of a clue. Ol' Bush really fucked things up pretty good.

The US was #7 last year in terms of global image and popularity.

This year it's #1.

Hmmm...

I think you are basicly right about the republican candidates, and I have never had a moments regret that McCain did not get elected (though I wonder if romney would have done any good with the economy...) and though I voted for Bush twice it was not as much a vote for him as a vote against Gore/Kerry- something else I have never had a seconds pause over- and there was a lot Bush did that I did not care for, However I do think our problems go deeper than the policies of those 8 years and most of the blame belongs at the feet of the American people; greed, over-consumption, debt etc etc-

Re the Seattle Parks story...

We got married on the lawn next to the chapel in Discovery Park, and were permitted to do so by the Parks Department. The reception was held elsewhere, but no grief from Seattle Parks at all for the ceremony. They were easy to work with and gave suggestions of areas that we could reserve. Based on the settlement document posted, our ceremony was very similar to his.

I believe that you can reserve the chapel area for an event... but just not a wedding? Ridiculous. I think someone is splitting hairs here.

No more movie stars = good. Increase in branded entertainment (dolls, etc.) = bad; no more movies for adults = bad. Hollywood must die.

October begins a new fiscal year.
The deficit for the year ending Sept 30 is $1.6 Trillion, officially-
add in what the government borrows from Social Security and a few other accounting scams and the actual deficit is $2 Trillion.
43% of every dollar the Federal Government spends is borrowed.
So far under Obama the cumulatice national debt has grown to $11 Trillion from $9 Trillion, and will double to $20 Trillion in 8 years.
The interest alone on $20 Trillion will be a Trillion every year.

Only for interest.

It's sad that there's nothing on last night's debate for Seattle Mayor even if the two daily papers have at least four articles on it already ....
