Youth Pastor Watch

Posted by on Mon, Oct 5, 2009 at 9:50 AM

Connecticut:

Police and state Department of Children and Families officials are investigating an allegation that the youth pastor at Faith Church, who reportedly was fired last week, engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a high school-aged congregant, a police department spokesman confirmed Tuesday. A church official said Tuesday that Jason Glaza, 30, a married father of three, was dismissed Thursday, one day after officials learned of an allegation of what they described as "inappropriate conduct'' between the pastor and a 16-year-old girl. Glaza has been the Route 7 church's youth pastor for two years.... A message left for Glaza on his Facebook page was not returned on Tuesday. Other contact information was unavailable.

Arizona:

About two weeks ago, Chandler police arrested a pastor for having sex with a 14-year-old girl in his congregation. Police say 25-year-old Josh O'Bannion admitted to having sex with the girl at least three times over the the last few months, while serving as youth pastor at the Christ Life Church in Tempe.... After hearing about the pastor's arrest here September 15, police in Parma, Ohio, say two girls, also 14, came forward to say that O'Bannion had engaged in sex with them, too, when he was a pastor in their church.

North Carolina:

A former parishioner is suing her Oshawa church, claiming she was coerced into sex as a teenager by a youth pastor. In a statement of claim filed in mid-September, Sarah Parsons, now 23, alleges she was victimized by the pastor, Brian Andrew Klein, of Whitby, between 2002 and 2004. The suit alleges that Ms. Parsons, who began attending the church in 1995 when she was nine, became involved in programs led by Mr. Klein, the youth pastor at the time. It's alleged that in 2002, shortly after her 16th birthday, the youth pastor kissed the girl. A month after that a sexual relationship began and continued for two years "on a regular, sometimes daily basis", the suit alleges.

I almost feel like the best way to get laid in this country is to be a youth pastor.

That last one seems irrelevant.

What did the last guy do? Is he just a youth pastor? Shouldn't we wait until he actually does something inappropriate first before putting him on the list?

Regarding the California youth pastor, is this a followup to a previous story on this guy? Or is engagement while being a youth pastor considered that bad?

@2 It definitely has to be the easiest route for pedophiles to satisfy their impulses. It seems like in the majority of these stories, the YP's are able to get away with it for years and years before getting caught, or even being accused.

2: That should be, "the best way to get laid on this continent...". The third story is from Ontario, not North Carolina!

The third guy? He's been accused of coercing a teenage girl—a parishioner—into having sex with him when he was her youth pastor and then having sex with her on a daily basis for two years.

@3 @4 @5

If you haven't noticed by now: Dan likes people talking about him, arguing about him, thinking about him. You asking "Why did Dan add that last one?" feeds his ego, provides him his raison de'tre. Other than that, and perhaps Dan's claim of clairvoyance, there was no reason to include the last one.

@everybody

You guys have short memories. Due to allegations of bias and people whining that Dan doesn't show the good youth pastors also (fair and balanced, amirite?), he's been including a decent person with all the scum.

God, I didn't read Slog for like six months, then I come back and people are STILL asking "what's the deal with the last guy?"

Regarding Mr. Robertson from California. It's called Youth Pastor WATCH, because youth pastors should be closely watched, rather than unconditionally trusted due to their self-professed "love of their lord"...as should all people with unsupervised access to your children. They all look like "good Christians" on the surface. That's why their abuse is so effective. Religious people need to open their eyes. Estimates indicate that more than 4% of Catholic Priests in the US are pedophiles. How do you Catholics know which are the "good ones?"

Dan has claimed (and even been confronted by included pastors) that he is including information about youth pastors who are doing good, or simply in the news for unrelated reasons, as a way of showing he isn't biased against youth pastors.

This is a transparant bigotry. Dan is, like all of us, a flawed and biased person. His biases are against Christians, fat people, and conservative or closeted Homosexuals.

If you're reading this, you have your own, as do I. I'm wary of young Arab men, out and out frightened of poorly dressed blacks in low riding vehicles, and dismissive of Ivy League cunts.

There's no way that people who are supposed to be our guide to what is Holy should be doing things as truly unholy as manipulating people into sex before they're ready. At the very least, those are the people who are REQUIRED to either say "only with marriage" or flee the scene rather than break their responsibility to be very godly at all times. Sadly, there are laws that can be broken but not punished for breaking. As long as we have protections in place to care for the victims afterwards, we can look forward to a stronger resistance to the slew of corrupt authority figures (even young ones) that seem to be appearing constantly in the media lately.

the story of the oshawa pastor is incorrect on here as well as when it was published in the paper. brian klein was not the youth pastor, never was a pastor. he was an administrator. people place pastors on a pedestal and love to watch when something goes wrong.

@Fifty-Two-Eighty

Don't act like your all-knowing. You sound like a child. "We all" don't know anything, much less you. From the look of your picture, you probably get off to websites like these, so your opinion means nothing at all.

@I know the truth About Jason

Please calm down. Yelling at the ignorant won't get you anywhere.
