the loss of gourmet is sad, but the intertubes have made all cooking mags pretty superfluous.

October begins a new fiscal year.
The deficit for the old one is $1.6 Trillion, officially-
add in what the government borrows from Social Security and a few other accounting scams and the actual deficit is $2 Trillion.
So far under Obama the cumulatice national debt has grown to $11 Trillion from $9 Trillion, and will double to $20 Trillion in 8 years.
The interest alone on $20 Trillion will be a Trillion every year.

Only for interest.

If you aren't shitting in your pants you must not be paying attention.

47% of all Americans pay no federal taxes.
Zero.
Nada.
Zilch.
Most of them voted for Obama.
And worry that the rich don't pay their fair share.
And want the Federal government to provide their health care.

They pay Zero Federal taxes.

everyone know that
it was on CNN this morning:

47% will pay no federal income tax

An increasing number of households end up owing nothing in major federal taxes, but the situation may not be sustainable over the long run.

By Jeanne Sahadi, CNNMoney.com senior writer
Last Updated: October 3, 2009: 2:58 PM ET

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Most people think they pay too much to Uncle Sam, but for some people it simply is not true.

In 2009, roughly 47% of households, or 71 million, will not owe any federal income tax, according to estimates by the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center.

Some in that group will even get additional money from the government because they qualify for refundable tax breaks.

The ranks of those whose major federal tax burdens net out at zero -- or less -- is on the rise. The center's original 2009 estimate was 38%. That was before enactment in February of the $787 billion economic recovery package, which included a host of new or expanded tax breaks.

you'll have to cut and paste

No one (except the Native Americans) thought to ask the Native Americans to help with the flooding problem. As in a DANCE to help with the flooding problem. I'm not sure how keen they would be on this, given that Whites have caused the "inconvenient truth" of the flooding problem.

There's a certian confluence of Gourmet mag folding and the posting for a weed clinic critic by Westword. Maybe Gourmet should have had such a writer?

And if restaurants pull out the good wine for a known critic, what would happen at a medical marijuana dispensary if the guy/gal from the local altweekly dropped by?

Sounds like a good job, and possibly the theme for another Garfunkle & Oates song!

@6

1. That article's numbers are very strange in that the 47% does not include federal payroll taxes.

2. Do you honestly think families earning less than $30K a year should pay federal taxes?

Even with a less progressive system, people earning that little amount of money will neither benefit others or themselves by paying anything greater than nominal federal taxes. The only way it would be fair to charge such people more would be to raise the federal minimum wage. You have to have a cohesive system that works. The system needs to take into consideration those whom make up its populace.
