Approve Referendum 71

Posted by on Mon, Oct 5, 2009 at 9:09 AM

A new video from SeattleOUTProtest...

A few notes: What's with the maniacal laughter? The woman on the left in the blue shirt looks like she's gonna shit herself. Does the lesbian couple really need to make we-be-all-crazy-ass-lesbian faces? Are trans couples best represented by what looks like a lesbian-identified trans boi and a drag queen on her way to a lip synch contest? Otherwise, good job.

yes, they need to make those faces. yes, that's the best way to represent trans couples.

I thought this was lovely. I thought it was supposed to be snapshots of moments in the life of real people, real couples, real families. Sometimes those moments are both sweet and goofy. Perhaps you have consumed too much Theraflu? Hope your feeling better.

Great ad. Stock photos of LGBTs w/ acoustic guitar and more text than the Star Wars opening crawl. Flawless!

If I lived in Washington and voted yes, could I hang out with that little girl for a little while.

She looks like the human personification of "Little girls are mad of sugar and spice..."

@3 If the sci-fi geeks weren't generally so progressive, you just came across a brilliant idea.

Somebody should redo this, but with a Star Wars opening crawl, lesbians represented by two Leias in her slave girl outfit. Gay boys could be Han and Luke. Trans could be R2D2 and C3PO.

It would be so hot.

Since it mostly affects old heteros no one can accuse me of being a homophobic bigot if I vote no.

Since the American public seems to love all the hamming, mugging and hooting that goes on every goddamn day in the background of the street shots on the morning network news shows, I think they can tolerate a smidge of the same from teh gayz.

They should have left out the 'bi', 'trans' etc.
It reinforces the "clown car of depravity" effect with a host of bizzare perverted classifications popping out.
Plus it is too long and too much reading.

Bravo for taking the time and spending the loot to make this video, but WHO is the audience for this? Too much information being thrown out at us like #3 said. Three ideas at the most should have been presented (Families,Children,Marriage) not as much information as could be crammed into the space and time allotted. The Radical Religious Extremists stick to their point "Protect Traditional Marriage" and they win time after time. Here we have a sweet, feel good video that goes from the Governor, to Senior Citizens, to Children, to Gay couples, to Lesbian Couples, to Hetero couples, to Wheat Fields, to little cute girls, to laws laws laws. Why not just cut to the chase?

#10 - oh, oh, that you should spend an extra minute of your life on something important.

The video is excellent - lesbians are oft. portrayed as too serious feminist hard core - love the light side faces - the little girl is priceless - the old lady in blue is just very happy, and some joke is driving her to ton of belly big humor time, fine with me - finally some information.

Overall - Grade A, thanks. ( made by community folks too, no media company getting paid big bucks)

#11 - What chase? - IT IS ABOUT DOMESTIC PARTNERS IN WASHINGTON - and is only two minutes.

Slow down and take a deep breath. Good music, nice backdrop - not at all overwhelming.

Just want to echo what 11 said- made entirely by volunteers. Same people that are putting on the local events this coming weekend...

Saturday 9:30am- Thinking Queerly Workshops, Piggot Hall @ Seattle University

Saturday 6pm- HIV/AIDS Vigil, SCCC Plaza (Pine and Broadway)

Sunday-2pm- March and Rally, Volunteer Park to the Federal Courthouse

Sunday 6:30pm- Generation Q Mega Mixer, Sole Repair Shop (23 and under please)

Many of us can't get to Washington DC this weekend, but its important that we come out in support of full equality- especially as our rights are being threatened right here in our own state.

And Approve 71!

Sorry honey, you can't vote NO - not on the ballot - bigots, however can vote DISAPPROVE.

And, why are you posting at this fag nest? Jesus must be calling you to care for the sick, homeless and hungry, right?

Agreed with #3 and #11. (And I am voting to approve ref. 71.) This should have been a very simple ad, and I doubt the campaign is doing itself many favors with the googly-eyed lesbians and superfluous drag queen.

The only problem with the video is people like you - go make a simple ad - one to your taste. Put it up - this was a community produced two minute You Tube - excellent in every regard., use your time and money to make one....hah, hah, won't happen.

If this is not simple and direct, well tell me, just how simple do you want it??

Simpleton begins to have a ring.
