The Morning News

Posted by on Fri, Oct 2, 2009 at 8:24 AM

Possibly Impossible: Top U.S. Commander in Iraq says mission may never be accomplished.

Heating Up: India blasts U.S. for "measly" efforts to combat global warming.

Fatal Insult to Fatal Injury: Deadly Sumatra earthquake destroys Padang hospital.

Ugh: Elizabeth Smart says she was raped daily by her captor.

'Giant Brown Monster' in Skagit County: Is actually just a monstrous multi-ton pile of toxic ash.

Not Just for Decoration: Colorado grandma fights off bear with decorative pillow.

Humanity Fail: Disabled people more likely to be crime victims.

And finally, once again for your morning treat, here's the PS22 Chorus, the pop-song-covering kids' chorus has been seen everywhere from The Today Show to Madison Square Garden. But their most perfect representation remains the classroom videos that started it all, where the close-up camera captures the fact that every single kid is performing like a superstar soloist. Today's offering is a Lady GaGa hit delivered by the chorus and two soloists, each of whom is totally adorable. Also: Kids dancing!

Yep, @2, that sound you hear is a couple million of taxpayer dollars being flushed down the toilet. But hey, at least the Obamas got a nice vacation out of it (while everybody else in America is getting laid off).

Chicago is out of the running for the Olympics.

Is there anything Obama doesn't suck at?

With Chicago's kids being slaughtered in the streets daily it is a moral crime that there were any resources wasted chasing the Olympics...

Obama/Chicago Epic Fail

RE: Elizabeth Smart raped daily by captor:
"Smart said Mitchell was motivated by sex and used religion to get what he wanted."

Unfortuantely, that applies to lots of people.

I honestly like their version ten times more. Extremely talented kids, never tire of seeing them sing.

I so want to fuck that teacher. He's sexy as hell. Hell I'd take him to Vermont and marry him.

@18

Once an itinerant street preacher, Mitchell is said to have wanted Smart as a polygamous wife and may have taken her to fulfill a religious prophecy he laid out in a 27-page manifesto drafted in April 2002.

Also like Joseph Smith

Wow -- Those pictures of China are stunning. Cue Charles' post about the end of the American empire, and the total glamour of China's military women.

That music teacher makes me all teary and shit. <3

I will NEVER FORGET my elementary school music teacher, and that dude reminds me of her. Except he's way hotter. But I love the enthusiasm. :)

Hey, hey, HEY!! Mitchell is nothing like Joseph Smith! Joseph Smith could read magical rocks in a hat in the dark!! Any asshole can rape a teeenager and make her his plural wife, but read magic rocks in the dark and get thousands of followers to believe you did it and follow you to friggin' UTAH? That's talent...

Speaking of talent, if we don't "succeed" in Iraq, we still occupy five or so big military bases right? Just a possibility. Only for a few decades. Or half a century. Until oil is as obsolete as whale tallow.
