Oh, Canada...

Posted by on Fri, Oct 2, 2009 at 1:33 PM

According to The Awl, this commercial for a Canadian sub shop chain has been pulled because it is controversial.

Other Mr. Sub ad topics include in-law incest and S&M.

OK, but you have to admit, that was kind of funny.

The kinky husband one made me laugh.

The combination of head-pat plus "super-super gay" made me pretty happy.

Nice to know that five years after legalizing (thru the courts) gay marriage, this is the sort of thing that appears in primetime tv, marketed to kids, up north. U.S take note.......

Those are great ads, but for the wrong product. Maybe for surprises in your phone bill, or on your vacation (travel agency) or something with a contract or where mundane is a good thing, but these funny ads seem to be wasted on subs...

Though I love how all the kids in the "I'm gay" ad have biblical names. That's perfect.

@4 - actually, Canadians always do funny things, it's kind of a national requirement. Just think of all the comedians you see in the US - half are actually from Canada.

@4: It's the downfall of Canada! Gay jokes will turn our kids gay! Construct an anti-gay wall to the north, lest the gay leak in!!!! OMG THE GAY!!!!!

You are so incredibly pointless, Hatemonger.

#4, it is nice to know that. And it's nice that it's happening.

Their old slogan used to be, "There's always something good going down at Mr Sub." GET IT??

Statistically speaking, some of his sons are gay too and they could do a follow up commercial.

I hafta agree, tussling the kid's hair and proudly informing the kid he's "super gay" was a nice touch.

@7: Thanks for sharing that clip. That's great.

Loveschild, a couple things:
1. Are you terrified to leave your house, since all you ever seem to see around you are slippery slopes?
2. You have to go through the courts to legalize anything.
3. How do you know this commercial was played in prime time hours?
4. How do you assume this is marketed to kids?
5. I've pointed this out before, but you don't ever post anything but the most knee-jerk FOX News-inspired reactions to...pretty much everything. Are you just a 4chan /b/astard here to troll?

This is the best Mr. Sub commercial - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prh70W0Yb…

I think the "not everyone likes surprises " bit is mean but the rest is great.

just to clarify for people who skim: the controversy is that THE AD IS CONSIDERED HOMOPHOBIC. Yes, that's right, in Canada we pull ads when they insult gay people. U.S. take note.

Loveschild: courts enforce laws passed by democratically elected politicians. Don't bash courts for following laws.

@ 16,

In America it would have been pulled for insulting closeted, married gay men who profess being 'Good Christians' whilst snorting cocaine off the backsides of gay hookers...who may or may not be wearing Panda suits and diapers.
