The Morning News

Posted by on Thu, Oct 1, 2009 at 8:22 AM

Sumatra Slammed: 7.6 earthquake kills hundreds on Indonesian Island.

Congratulations and Wow: WSU receives $15 million Dept. of Agriculture grant for specialty crop research (including $3.1 million to study how pests, droughts, and disease on hop and mint plants affect the taste of beer and gum!)

City Attorney Smackdown: Joel Connelly on Tom Carr's and Pete Holmes' Stranger endorsement brawl. BONUS! Carr and Holmes answer your questions in Electionland.

At Least Now They Have Somewhere to Go: Roughly a dozen people arrested as police clear out Nickelsville homeless encampment.

She Finished Something!: Sarah Palin reportedly finishes memoir ahead of schedule.

Speaking of Accomplishments: Florida police catch naked, feces-covered man who jumped in a swimming pool.

Sisterhood of the Bong: Marie Claire ponders why so many smart, successful women are big fat stoners.

Still Controversial After 33 Years: That naked photo of 10-year-old Brooke Shields.

And one more time for your morning treat, here is the PS22 Chorus, the pop-song-covering kids' choir has been seen everywhere from The Today Show to Madison Square Garden. But their most perfect representation remains the classroom videos that started it all, where the close-up camera captures the fact that every single kid is performing like a superstar soloist. (Also, hearing elementary school kids sing about their fear of changing and getting older melts my goddamn heart.)

Sarah Palins book shouldn't take too much time. Pop-up books aren't as complicated as you might think.

Thanks, David, for PS22. It has made this week of fairly disheartening news much easier to handle.

That was beyond beautiful! Children are our best hope for a better peace loving future, that's why we must continue to protect them and the institutions that enable them to have healthy, safe and productive lives.

I was having such a lovely morning, LC. Did you really have to come in and ruin it.
I wonder how many of those kids might come from "alternative households" like having gay parents, single parents, or being raised by grandparents.
Go slink off to a hole you hateful monster.

Doesn't LC have (illegitimate) children of her own? She should spend the time she wastes here protecting and enabling those poor bastards.

My favorite part of the Marie Claire article is when they offered the diet tidbit that one lady had lost 25 pounds despite being a head, by "eating a healthy meal" before tokin' to "avoid the munchies".

Thanks too, David, for PS22. Those kids crush me.

I was in great shape as a pot smoker, mostly because it compelled me to work out like a maniac. But I quit because it was taking a toll on my lungs. Anyone who thinks sucking smoke into your lungs daily isn't going to affect your cardiovascular health is deluding themselves.

Then again, I do knock back a lot of wine on the weekends...and I've gained that ten pounds back. So I can definitely understand why some women choose pot.

Why do you guys even read LC's post? Whenever I see her icon my eyes automatically drift to the next comment.

The PS22 Eye of the Tiger is pretty good, too.

Brooke Sheild's mom let her be photographed for a publication called "Sugar and Spice?" Playboy owned Sugar and Spice? Wow, that's all so wrong.

Well, Dwight, $450 was a lot of dough in 1976. "Sugar and Spice" was a hard-bound soft-focus smutty art book (sort of in the David Hamilton vein) published by Playboy; you can find dozens of copies on the web, for less than Mrs. Shields sold her daughter for. Her ten-year-old titties are all over the web.

They got to sing for Stevie just before FM was in concert at MSG.
