zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

GM was stretched too thin in to many markets with too many models.

Thee will be more major job loss.

Maybe GM can get in the business of rapid transit vehicles and metro stations.

Seriously, Chicago can prepare for an entire Olympic games by 2016 and all Seattle can do in that time is build the Capitol Hill Light Rail station.

This is just burying the corpse. Saturn as an "independent company inside GM" stopped existing several years ago: they've been just another GM marque slapped onto the same GM bodies and drivetrains since 2005 at the latest.

There goes the South's dreams of becoming the new Detroit.

... or, I guess, now they ARE the new (old) Detroit

Saturn looks fine to me -- here's a recent pic sent back of the magnificent planet and some of its icy moons by NASA's Cassini probe, during Saturn's equinox (which puts its ring and moon system edge-on with the sun about every 30 of our years):

Good.

I hated their commercials.

That's too bad. I wanted to see Roger Penske get a crack at making Saturn profitable. The guy has a long record of successful business ventures; he's one of the super-rich people in this country who's earned every penny.

FYI, Penske was a race car driver back in the 60's; his career was fairly unspectacular. Being the smart guy that he is, he figured out that you could get the same thrill from the sport as an owner, without the broken bones and 3rd degree burns. He's gone on to be the most successful race team owner of all time, and has won the Indy 500 as an owner, like, 15 times.

But but but...they had a TV ad saying that Saturn wasn't going anywhere just a couple of months ago....Why did they lie to us?? WHY WHY WHY?!?!?!?

Shit - don't scare me like that! I thought we lost yet another planet. Still mourning over Pluto.

Pluto wasn't a planet. Unless you think there are planets circling our gas giants.

The South is still the new Detroit, between the Toyota, Honda, Hyundai factories, the BMW & Mercedes factories, the massive Michelin empire in South Carolina, the coming VW factory in TN, and BTW, the Spring Hill, TN, factory lived on as a GM factory, non-Saturn, making other stuff. Also, a bunch of factories by other, lesser Japanese brands, some of whom have fallen by the wayside in this market.
