The Sarah Palin Memoir Is Coming Soon

Posted by on Mon, Sep 28, 2009 at 4:41 PM

Gov_Sarah_Palin.jpg
Sarah Palin's 400-page memoir, titled Going Rogue: An American Life, will be published on November 17th. HarperCollins is publishing one and a half million copies of the book. I'll try to read the goddamned thing when it comes out, because I am the book editor here and God hates me.

Is it available in "pop-up" versions?

Thanks for taking one for the team, Paul.

Well, at least they won't need to make a Cliff Notes version.

No way she wrote a 400 page book.

Free Lunch 11
Funny that she uses "rogue" in the title, considering its undesirable connotations.

She should have stuck with "maverick."

Baconcat 12
@11: No, Maverick is not her word. The folks of Maverick County, Texas, where the original Maverick was from, voted overwhelmingly for Obama.

She should stick with Caribou Barbie.

Even Sarah Palin won't read it.

Judging by the cover, it's a graphic novel.

Why is the liberal media so obsessed with her? Why do you idiots keep insisting on giving her MORE media attention? If she does decide to run in 2012, she'll have you to thank.

Going rogue is seriously the title? If I saw that book on a shelf, im pretty sure i would assume the book was being critical of her. I cant even tell when republicans are joking anymore.

Judging from the cover - It is a coloring book!

I'm with @13 -- She wouldn't be able to *read* 400 pages, let alone write them.

I swear the first ten times I read that title I thought it was "Going Rouge", rather than "Rogue". I was going to snark about her picking a title that specifically used a pun to knock at the perception that she's a Barbie doll....but alas, that cleverness is only in my slightly misogynistic brain....

COMTE 29
I'm guessing maybe Todd suggested the title to her after engaging in a three day, meth fueled "Splinter Cell" binge...

I think the cover art looks like the cover of a children's sleuth novel. Sarah Palin and the Microphone Mystery.

You leftist fools think you can stop Sarah by insulting her? Hah! She is a brilliant Christian patriot who is also a hard traditionalist and may be the only person left in 2012 who can undo the damage done by our Kenyan usurper in chief.

I am amazed at her courage and intellect.

Spare a thought for the poor fucker who had to edit her original manuscript down to 400 pages. If it was anything like Palin's resignation speech, he/she has probably been consigned to the Screaming Ward.

Is it a Mad Lib? Or does Mad Lib describe the person most likely to read the book? (People Sarah Palin calls "Real Americans" tend to watch television...)

I'm guessing that her Twitter support group will buy the bulk of the one and half million copies. And anyone who finds themselves short on TP can stalk up as well. After all, 400 pages will outlast the 50 page introduction to the free copies of "Origin of the Species" being given away at prestigious universities this October.

Thank you for reading it, Paul. We await your review.

"It won't sell."

According to nonfiction bestseller lists, conservatives buy books by the boatload. Whether anybody's going to actually *read* it or not is another story.

@16, 17, 19, 21, 30 -- not to point out the obvious, but I'm pretty sure Paul was using that cover ironically -- it's the cover of a comic book put out by Bluewater Productions:

http://www.bluewaterprod.com/comics/fema…

Paul, any chance you could sleuth out the actual author of this "book"? I'd actually appreciate a piece on ghost writers in general -- there have got to be a whole bunch of them dying to tell the story of their behind-the-scenes work to allow celebrities to pretend to be authors...

I'm worried that if you read it, you might be swayed to her ideology. Caution.

FWIW, I expect that she will be sure that it reads very smart-like, so as not to add to her legendary simple-minded reputation, and she will have had it scrubbed of grammatical errors and difficult-to-disprove notions. She also will have spent some obvious time with a thesaurus, in order to enlarge words.

The book tour should be interesting.

@45 - looks like the ghostwriter's name is Lynn Vincent. More here.

A quote from @48's link: "Copy-editing and fact-checking is now underway in a race to meet the crash publishing schedule, which has been accelerated because of the huge anticipated demand."

Rushed editing and fact-checking could make for some VERY fun errors slipping through the cracks. FINGERS CROSSED!!!

shabadoo@48, thanks; that satisfied my slight curiosity (obviously wasn't curious enough to Google it myself I guess).

I guess this Lynn Vincent doesn't technically count as a ghostwriter, since her name will overtly be on the book cover. I'm still morbidly curious about ghost authors willing to spend months of their lives writing books that other people can claim to have written.
