At University Book Store, Samantha Scholfield reads from Screw Cupid: The Sassy Girl's Guide to Picking Up Hot Guys. My advice to all those women who want to pick up guys is: Grab their pants. Now you don't need to go to this reading.
George Bowering is a former Canadian Poet Laureate. His newest collection is The Box. Kathleen Flenniken is a local poet who has written a book titled Famous. They are both at Elliott Bay Book Company.
Max Blumenthal reads at Town Hall. Republican Gomorrah: Inside the Movement that Shattered the Party is another in a disturbing string of books that assumes Republicans are down and out. They are counting their pre-hatched chickens.
The reading of the night is at the Hugo House, though. This is a pretty smart idea: The poet Daemond Arrindell will read a personal essay he wrote. The cartoonist David Lasky will read a poem he wrote, and the personal essayist Cienna Madrid will read a comic book that she wrote and drew. They call this event Trading Places. I hope this is only the first in a long string of Hugo House events named after Eddie Murphy movies.
The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here. And if you're planning on staying in and you're looking for personalized book recommendations, feel free to tell me the books you like and ask me what to read next over at Questionland.
