First, We Seize The Means of Production...

Posted by on Thu, Sep 24, 2009 at 7:28 AM

...then we let the homos get married. Same sex marriage is socialism, says U.S. Rep. Steve King, Republican of Iowa.

If there's a push for a socialist society where the foundations of individual rights and liberties are undermined and everybody is thrown together living collectively off one pot of resources earned by everyone, this is one of the goals they have to go to, same sex marriage, because it has to plow through marriage in order to get to their goal. They want public affirmation, they want access to public funds and resources.

Remember how Stalin legalized same-sex marriage in 1946? By 1970 China, Cuba, East Germany, and North Korea had all legalized same-sex marriage. Those were the days, huh?

That's not an argument against same sex marriage. It's an argument against all marriage.

Gay people pay into the system too.

Wait, allowing individuals to marry who they want undermines the foundations of "individuals rights and liberties?"

And if you say/read these words and don't immediately see how fucking dumb they are, is there really any reason to argue with you?

how does the venn diagram even work on gays and socialism? I mean, I already know that all pornography is homosexual, but are all homosexuals socialists? And does that imply then that all pornography is socialist?

Karl Marx clearly had the wrong idea when he started writing all those dry books. if only he had been born a few short decades later, he coulda got in on the ground level of a burgeoning film industry as the premier prurient purveyor of the people's porn. Ponder: pendulous prole penises and progressive pudenda!

Stalin legalized same-sex marriage in 1946? Oh really? I'd love a citation of your references. According to Wikipedia, homosexuality, particularly male, got you 5 years in the Gulag - a law that was continued by Khruschev.

I grew up in Iowa and Steve King is considered a joke in most of the state. He's a lunatic.

Is there a requirement that I don't know about regarding politics? One that states "A member of the population must be certifiable by two pyschiatrists before any election to public office shall be deemed valid." (Got to get those deeming fairies in there somewhere!)

I grew up in King's district. He's a bore and a fool. That's why he is the perfect representative for that area.

I feel very angry when I see "homosexuality" matched with communism and socialism. There is a century long tradition that says the two are very much mutually exclusive. Just look at Cuba, Russia, China, etc., etc., etc.
While things have changed a bit in those countries just recently (except Moscow) there is a history that I will never let myself forget. Most gays will never, ever pardon socialism/communism for their evil ways.

Maybe King is just attempting to develop a Unified Hate Theory that somehow connects all the people that the right wing nutters hate into one vast conspiracy against 'merica? Muslims, Jews, Atheists, Socialists, Communists, Homosexuals, Pornographers, Abortion-Givers, Abortion-Getters, drug users, lazy poor people, immigrants, black people, environmentalists, dirty hippies, non-rich people who shirk military service.

There has to be something that explains why all these people hate 'merica and want to take away everything that the poor right-wingers have worked for all their lives.

Yeah because socialism is all about finding your identity. Then again, the logic in this statement seems to go like this, "as soon as homos start getting married, no one will be interested in having traditional family anymore."

Julie, King isn't that intelligent. He's just a dumb hayseed who got some idea that he could be a Congressman.

The people of western Iowa are well-intentioned but extremely provincial. He plays to his base and makes the noises they want to hear, while helping the likes of ConAgra to systematically dissemble the "rural lifestyle" they all cling to. (which is mostly just a parody of "Hee-Haw" anymore. Most real farmers are retired or bankrupt.)

So gay people aren't part of the public now. They don't work or pay taxes. Okaaaay.

Maybe by "public resources" wanted by gay people, they mean "your husbands' buttholes" and "your children's souls."

Lenin took the anti-homosexuality laws from the czarist era off the books pretty soon after the Communist Revolution in 1918. Stalin put 'em back on in the 30's, probably because he wanted to have more people to not trust...

Will someone in the name of the great Ch'an Chu please explain to me why the fuck is socialism still a bad word? We use socialized services all the time, but more than that, CAPITALISM FAILED. We had to fucking socialize the capitalist market to keep it from collapsing into the ocean. We don't get to deride socialism anymore.

@28: You're talking about a vocabulary where "liberal" is also a bad word. Hell, I'm not even sure if in this vocabulary "liberal" is really a word with its own definition; the way it's used, I assume now it's only another synonym for "evil."

Are they working towards a unified theory of whiny victim/cranky? They may be.

Here's a hint I stumbled across recently: they used to play the "poor, pitiful, more-moral us, surrounded by a sea of YOU KNOW WHO who are ruining everything!" But then their race toy got taken away. (Well, they couldn't touch it in public anymore. Now they just play pocket pool, and get outraged if you accuse them of it, and just claim they just like limited government, I mean, were searching for a dime.)

>>>Another veteran serving in the Senate, who asked that he not be named so as not to compromise his close connections to today’s top officers, offers a variation on Captain Morton’s analysis of the military’s turn toward religion. Although the military was integrated before much of the United States, he points out, it almost split along racial lines, particularly in the last days of Vietnam. If the military was to rebuild itself, the Southern white men at the heart of its warrior culture had to come to an understanding of themselves based on something other than skin color. Many, says the senator, turned toward religion, particularly fundamentalist evangelical Christianity—a tradition that, despite its particularly potent legacy of racism, reoriented itself during the post–civil rights era as a religion of “reconciliation” between the races, a faith that would come to define itself in the early 1990s with the image of white men hugging black men, tears all around, at Promise Keeper rallies. “They replaced race with religion,” says the senator. “The principle remains the same—an identity built on being separate from a society viewed as weak and corrupt."<<<

That's from:
Jeff Sharlet, "Jesus Killed Mohammed", about the rise of fundamentalists in the DoD.
http://www.harpers.org/archive/2009/05/0…

I'm guessing the anonymous Senator is Jim Webb.

I believe I've heard Sharlet in interviews recently describing how Falwell had to make the transition from resisting integration to culture war codewords in the 70's.

Of course, they wouldn't be doing any of this if everybody would just hang their heads in shame and go back in their particular closets or back of the bus, and let them run everything. That's all they ask, really. Well, that, and a pat on the back for getting married and fucking and having babies. I mean, how many other mammals can make babies? It's a miracle!
