ACLU Gives Big Money to Approve R-71

Posted by on Wed, Sep 23, 2009 at 11:08 AM

The American Civil Liberties Union has contributed $32,000 to the Approve Referendum 71 campaign, group spokesman Doug Honig announced this morning. The ACLU has a long-running LGBT project and the state chapter was one of the chief litigators in the attempt to overturn Washington's bigoted Defense of Marriage Act. Money comes from both the national organization and the state affiliate, which has over 25,000 members.

“Families need legal protections for their relationships, especially in these difficult economic times," ACLU of Washington director Kathleen Taylor said in a statement. "Approving R-71 will ensure that all families in Washington are treated fairly under the law."

Go ACLU! Approve R-71!

Can we also organize a "coming out" party where we get everyone who supports R-71 to come out to Westlake and rally? And similar throughout the state? Sometime in the next 2 weeks before ballots get passed out? Pretty please? Get all the supporting groups, gay, straight, black, white, young old and have them rally downtown.

Um, paging Join the Impact? You guys have the contacts and the manpower. I'll put up flyers for you guys for free all over town if you need someone to do that if you print them and give me a staple gun. I'll bring back the staple gun, even. I might even only keep 2 or 3 flyers for myself instead of taking, like, 10.
