Glenn Beckwatch: The Lesser of Two Evils

Posted by on Tue, Sep 22, 2009 at 11:32 AM

So Glenn Beck said yesterday in an interview with Katie Couric that he thought John McCain would've been worse for the country as president than Barack Obama:

Man, I hate to imagine the Tea Parties that would've happened if John McCain was president, then. Can you imagine? All the posters about how John McCain is Hitler and a socialist and John McCain is going to enslave the white race? I shudder to think. Beck also said that Hillary Clinton would've made a better president than Obama, and he maybe would've even voted for her over John McCain, making me even more proud that I didn't vote for Hillary Clinton.

Beck is an obsessive-compulsive, reformed addict whose brain doesn't know how to process moderation. His latest obsession-compulsion involves forces he doesn't even know exist, much less how to control. He's in way over his head, but he can't stop because the attention is too addictive. He truly does not know what he's doing.

Didn't Beck's mother kill herself? Isn't that sort of depression hereditary? Just wondering is all.....

That man is mentally ill, I'm convinced.

Not that I actually think that Beck employs any logic other than what will get him the most attention, but, maybe his rationale is that McCain might have swung the Republican party to the left (bad for the country). And that Hillary would have galvanized the right even more than Obama, making them stronger (good for the country).

When I listen to him speak, I can't hear anything other than a man who is desperately trying to prove that he's intelligent. "What about this idea? Am I smart now? Am I?" I know at least a couple of Republicans who have similar chips on their shoulders...

And the nation as a whole took a minute to stop and say, "..."

Praising Hillary Clinton and talking about how Obama "lost those white Hillary voters" or how "her fat ass should have been in the Oval Office (George Bush reportedly said that one) is the method du jour for Republicans to claim "look we're not partisan, we just don't like Obama'. Buchanan does is constantly as do other conservative talking heads.

It's dishonest, and the real purpose is clear: break up and scatter the Dems.

Of course this is easy to do since late in the primaries Hillary was acting like a Republican and doing postracial, progressive things like comparing Obama to Robert Mugabe and waxing nostalgically about "hard working white people".

I've seen this frame capture of his horrid, smug, pudgy face in three different locations now and have not been able to subject myself to watching the clip.

I think this is a step forward for MY mental health.

He's trying to trick us into thinking he has even a tiny bit of rationality. I don't buy it.

I see he still didn't take the opportunity to disavow the rumor that he killed and raped a young girl in 1990. I wonder why he refuses to address the issue?

There is a great feature at Salon discussing his radio background and the forces that have shaped his madness.

We get a glimpse into how his mind works, or doesn't, in his case. Something ridiculous pops into his head, and due to shaky impulse control, he just says it and lets the crazy chips fall where they may.

Nothing reformed about him. He's dry. Won't last.

I really would not want to see a couple of roaming pit bulls rip his face and throat out. Not at all. Nope. Don't want to see that.

@12 "Something ridiculous pops into his head, and due to shaky impulse control, he just says it and lets the crazy chips fall where they may."

Exactly. I think he just tries to make it seem as though he's thought about all of these questions before... Pretending he has all his bases covered, and that underneath it all is a very methodical, consistent, and 'independent' belief system.

But for Beck, it's all about delivery. And he wonders why the rest of the country thinks he's wacko, when he's able to fool a couple hundred thousand into believing he's sane. He has no self-consistent set of beliefs. So if he phrases things as though he's thought deeply about them, and sticks to his guns after blurting it out. The fact that he can face his weak self in the mirror every day is mind boggling.

Beck and the teabaggers aren't Republicans. They're Ron Paulistas. Big difference. They think McCain and Obama, Bush and Kerry, Bush and Gore, are exactly the same thing. Just like, er, Naderites.
