Two Stranger Genius Award Winners Win MacArthur Grants

Posted by on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 8:27 PM

The filmmaker James Longley ("who explores Middle East conflicts with portraits of communities under stress") and poet Heather McHugh ("a poet known for her syntactical twists") just won MacArthur "genius" grants, it will be announced tomorrow morning. They each get $500,000, spread out over five years.

On behalf of all of us at The Stranger who have been rooting for these two for years: FUCK YEAH! Meanwhile, here's Annie Wagner's profile of James Longley from 2006 and here's my profile of Heather McHugh from 2007.
